    Somebody freaked out on Kyuss

Went on a binge and picked up:

    Blues for the Red Sun

    Muchas Gracias

    ...and the Circus Left Town

    Desert Sessions 1 & 2

    Desert Sessions 7 & 8

    Welcome to Sky Valley

anyways....frickin Kyuss rules (they're Queens of the Stone Age before they were Queens of the Stone Age but minus Brant Bjork) Welcome to Sky Valley is my new favorite, I can't think of the name of the song but it's nice...it's mellow...just a drum beat really holding the song together and then BAM! Demon Cleanser punches you in the face!!

If you've never listened to Queens or Kyuss and have only seen the video for "No one Knows" on Mtv, check 'em out. They are like Black Sabbath on 2 hits of LSD, some weed and like....let's say 8 beers. They used to have these huge jams out in the desert of SoCal that would go on for whole weekends of just them and their friends jammin. Good stuff y'all.

Sky Valley is a true classic. Every song fits and flows.

QOTSA is not nearly what Kyuss was, which seems strange, because Josh is a better singer and songwriter than he ever was in Kyuss. But there's no sense of *danger* to QOTSA...Josh Homme can sing "Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, marijuana, Ecstacy and alcohol", but you know they've done plenty of it before and it won't kill them this time either, or even make them miss a note. Whereas when Kyuss careens into "Gardenia", you feel like the train could derail at any second. Even the quiet parts blow by like heavy storm clouds.

QOTSA opened for RHCP last year, and I was really looking forward to seeing them, but was dissapointed with the show.

QOTSA put on an amazing show the three times I saw them, though that was spread over a fairly long period, and all the shows were them headlining.

Josh Homme recently kicked out the bassist after a bunch of personal issues - its possible you saw them at the height of the turmoil CD.

One of the best shows I've ever seen was QOTSA headlining a show upstairs at the Middle East. Tiny venue (capacity of 50?), loud sound system - rocked it.

Bump for some of the best music ever recorded.

Groovin to the circus leaves town right now. I was loading up my mp3 and I can't get past Kyuss. This shit kills it.

"Garcia plays Kyuss" is playing at a local club in June, I'm wondering if it would be worth seeing? i presume it's just the original singer with non-Kyuss backup.

    any opines?

go Garcia's voice is still great and I'm sure he will have a decent back up band

Speaking of Kyuss, Juned named a song after them after touring with them and Dinosaur Jr. Juned is one of the best bands you've probably never heard of.

see them live. the show last night was really great. i didn't even mind too much that the backing band was not original kyuss. like a tsunami of sonic sound washing over me...best i can describe it. just go with the flow and rock!

supporting act was swiss band Monkey3. i'd say if you like kyuss you'll like them too. no vocals, just long heavy jams.

Kyuss went through several lineup changes. The only members that stayed constant throughout were Garcia and Homme. That's about as legit a "Kyuss Lives" lineup as you're going to get...

    Bummer for Scott Reeder, though.

"Kyuss" was pretty awesome with just Garcia last May. I'm looking forward to seeing them again with 3 members (coming next March to Switz!).

FYI John Garcia did some recording with Karma to Burn recently. Check it.
