Billy Zoom. X went from the best live show I've ever seen to just boring after he left.

I'll second the Johnny Marr vote.

I'll second the Bob Mould, Johnny Marr, Mick Jones and Billy Zoom votes, although it seems to me that Marr is acknowleged as one of the greats, at least in some circles.

The last couple Wilco shows I've seen have been awesome - Nels Cline rules.

Richard Thompson is probably the best guitar player I've ever seen, but he gets a lot of credit.

Fairly obscure, but how 'bout Warner Hodges from Jason and the Scorchers? Hank Williams style country at Ramones velocity ...

The number one guy who gets no credit is the same guy I always mention in these threads: Danny Gatton.

Unbelievable tone, speed, dexterity and versatility. The best rock/jazz/rockabilly guitarist ever, in my view.

    RIP Danny.

All the Cooder fans should watch Paris, Texas (1984). Ry's evocative slide absolutely slays the soundtrack.

He may be good technically, but their music is an offense to the senses. Might as well poke kittens with knitting needles, record their squeals, and play them backwards at... like.... 11. Wait, that gives me an idea....

Well that is downright blasphemy! I have a warm spot in my heart for the mars volta.

if they aren't your thing, I understand. But he was also the bass player turned guitarist for at the drive in too, which some people forget about.

Big Repeats for Steve Cropper & Richard Thompson. Add:
    Robert Quine
    Chris Whitley
James Burton (not underrated, but not recognized enough for the absolute genius that he is)
