"I've cancelled that in my area"
"I've cancelled that in my area" -- Tom Cruise
Destined to become an classic internet saying, much like:
"All your base are belong to us."
"Don't taze me, bro."
I freaking LOVE the interweb!
BTW, Ground Control to Major Tom, "What the crap happened to you?"

I have no idea what this means, Cruise and Co.not on my interweb priority agenda.

I'm with the other non-Cruisers here. WTF?
It did take me about a year to figure out why everyone was repeating that 'base belong to us' thing, though.[quote][//quote]

Oh I definitely know what you're talking about. The best part is that video is used to RECRUIT people for Scientology. How could you view that and want to join?
Also, Jerry O'Connel does a pretty good impersonation on funnyordie.com.

I don't understand a word he is saying.
But, can someone explain why scientology is fundamentally different than other religions?
I know all about the history and the sketchy recruitment and retention tactics, and LRH's quote about making money by starting a religion, but is there something fundamentally different about COS?

It's different because you have to pay to be a member. (Unless you are a celeb apparently, kind of a "loss leader", I guess.) If I understand correctly, that is why it is banned in Germany and not considered a religion at all there and in other places.
This JERRY OCONNELL VID is just the thing to cleanse your palette, if you've just seen the Cruise vid."Active management in bear markets tends to outperform. Unfortunately, investors are not as elated with relative returns when they are negative. But it does support the argument that active management adds value." -- independent fund analyst Peter Loach

Scientology is a cult in the negative sense of that word. Below is a short excerpt from the wiki entry on psychological definition of cults:
Psychological definition
Studies of the psychological aspects of cults focus on the individual person, and factors relating to the choice to become involved as well as the subsequent effects on individuals. Under one view, an important factor is coercive persuasion which suppresses the ability of people to reason, think critically, and make choices in their own best interest.
Studies of religious, political, and other cults have identified a number of key steps in this type of coercive persuasion:[25] 1. People are put in physically or emotionally distressing situations; 2. their problems are reduced to one simple explanation, which is repeatedly emphasized; 3. they receive unconditional love, acceptance, and attention from the leader; 4. they get a new identity based on the group; 5. they are subject to entrapment and their access to information is severely controlled.[26]
Actually, it's difficult for me to truly differentiate Scientology from religions or other belief systems. Some are just more popular and widely accepted than others. They're all the same in that they are based on illogic, superstition, mysticism, and irrational, magical thinking and beliefs.

no, all religions are the same.. buncha people with some wacky beliefs who give their money to support the instution, try to to recruit others to their glorified cult, and do their best to force said beliefs on the rest of society or world (typically violence is involved at this level). religions are just popular cults..

I also like this definition of a cult:
"A cult is a group or movement exhibiting a great or excessive devotion or dedication to some person, idea or thing and employing unethically manipulative techniques of persuasion and control (e.g. isolation from former friends and family, debilitation, use of special methods to heighten suggestibility and subservience, powerful group pressures, information management, suspension of individuality or critical judgment, promotion of total dependency on the group and fear of [consequences of] leaving it, etc) designed to advance the goals of the group's leaders to the actual or possible detriment of members, their families, or the community."
