Thread: PUSH.....Should I?

I'm thinking of sending in one of my DHX's to PUSH, but I'm still on the fence on a couple things. I need you guys to tip me. Does anyone here have any experience with them, preferably on a single-pivot bike (ideally the Heckler)? I have about a year and a half of riding on the Heckler so the shock's about due for a tune, buuuut......I also have a Cuervo that I'll probably spend a lot more time on this season. So if I do decide to send one in, would I benefit more on the SC that probably needs some love, or the DH bike?

do it. they do a great job and you wont regret it. You will probably regret not doing it sooner. Do it on whichever bike you enjoy riding more. Push can dial the shock in specifically for your body type and riding style.

I had a Fox Float rebuilt ("tuned") by PUSH -- it was a night and day improvement over the stock shock. However, this shock didn't have platform valving in it to start with, which was a big part of the improvement IMHO. This was on a faux-bar XC bike, so sort of a single pivot application...

DHX coil or air?

I had the old Vanilla RC on my Spec. FSR pro DH PUSHed a couple years ago. It was a great improvement. Do it!

I would PUSH the shock that is on the bike you will be riding more...probably the Heckler. If you were going to be doing a lot of racing, then the Cuervo.
Actually, I've always felt that the Cuervos I've thrown a leg over felt suuuuper plush a little bit too far through the shock stroke for my liking, but they may been a little under sprung for me. If you are going to be riding the Cuervo in more of a freeride manner, I'd think about sending that shock and getting a slightly less racy tune on it. PUSH's general philosphy on DH bikes is to tune them like motos. By that I mean they add a fair bit of low speed compression to firm up the top half of travel. Not like a stiff SPV or Pro Pedal, but his goal is to get you riding good quality damping in about the first half of your travel, with the rest there when you need it. If you are constantly blowing through most of your travel, your bike's attitude is constantly changing which makes for a less efficient, less stable, more bucknutty ride.
I prolly just made your decision more muddled. Send both.

I'm kind of leaning toward the Heckler right now, I think it could benefit from this more. Although it would be nice to have a little firmer first 1/2 stroke on the Cuervo, and I'm considering racing at Silver Mountain this summer.....I might end up flipping a coin on this one.

I was thinking about doing this as well. I almost immediately bent the propedal adjustment switch as soon as I got my bike...stupid rack! Anyway, hopefully they can fix that as well...Thanks for the reminder!

Heckler, definitely. I need somebody to tell me how much of a difference there is so I can decide if I want to PUSH the DHX that's on my Heckler, or buy a Roco TST to replace it.

One word of warning: only Push if you want to make a commitment to Push again at regular intervals (they recommend annually). Like any performance tune, there is a durability tradeoff.

Also, the original manufacturer (Fox, anyways) won't touch it.

PUSH doesn't do/add anything that's going to compromise durability, and their service intervals are no different than what the manufacturer recommends.

I can handle sending it back for just a rebuild every once in a while, I should be doing that anyway. And if there are durability issues, that's just another good excuse for a new shock!

I love mine, but again I did not have propedal, so that made it much better. Also from what I understand there is no durability difference.

This is what I am wondering about it.....do you loose the propedal adjustability if the shock is pushed?

I just got by DHX for my AS-X Pushd, can't wait to try it (just got it back). I've used them in the past on a vanilla from a Yeti DH9 and really liked the difference. I'm sending the shock from my Cuervo in very soon (we both are sending our Cuervo's back to Ventana for new bearings, weld fixes and stripping/new paint, should be a new frame when done). I don't think you can go wrong but you may feel the difference the most on the Heckler but the improvement on the DH bike would be REALLY fun. I know this doesn't help much, just send them both.

Did we bump into you @ Big Sky this summer (late)? We were with a huge group, most of us were on Ventana's as well it seemed (at least 6 of us anyway). Good luck with it

That was probably me. I ride with a friend who also has a black Cuervo, so we're kind of hard to miss. One of the people in your group hit the massive gap on Keyhole, right?

Actually, three of them hit it. HUGE! That was a great weekend, you'll see us up there again for sure.

The Heckler's getting pimped. I guess I might as well rebuild the fork while I'm at it!


I'll probably be working in Kellogg this summer, but I'm going to try to make it down to Bozeman at least a couple times to go ride. Let me know when you guys are headed up, it would be fun to get a bunch of people together and go ride Big Sky.

I just got some ride time on it today and now have absolutely no regrets abou spending $200 to make my shock fancier. The big things I noticed were:

-The rear end doesn't just bounce around when I'm climbing in the granny gear anymore, it actually like....soaks up bumps n' stuff.

-On big g-outs the shock won't make the bike kick back at me on the other wall, it's just...well, it absorbs them perfectly and I don't notice any rebound at all. It's fuckin' awesome!

-The ride is just smoother overall. I don't notice it ramping up harshly or blowing through travel, it just lets me float over stuff now.

This was my first day of real riding this year, we did 13 miles, and my ass isn't even sore. It's unreal how much a few little tweaks have changed the bike's attitude. Now it just does everything I want it to without having to put any effort into it at all. I was beginning to play with the idea of a new trail bike, but now there isn't any reason to replace the one I have now, it's perfect.

Fuck yes.

Pipestone if still in the bozeman area?

I went over to Helena today and rode the south hills, things are really shaping up around there. It'll get the Fruita/Moab test when I head down there the 13th.

i gots another ? regarding PUSH
is it $95 to rebuild and then another $150 to tweak? dont really understand if they include everything in the $150 or not??
