Seems like something like amber alert would be useful in mountain areas--everyone's cell phone gets messaged to see if anyone knows where missing people were planning to go.
Definitely a worthy gaper quote. Hope the guy had a sock for his dick.

This guy is an irregular regular. He's teaching his grand daughter to ski. He's very enthusiastic. I'm in awe.

Not really a gaper just a braindead dumbshit. So I'm running over the pass back home loaded at 60mph and a suv with skis on top pulls out 100 feet in front of me. I hit the brakes, jakes,hi beams and the train horn. I'm gaining on him fast and all I can see is a little pink bike on the back. He hit the ditch just in time. That fucker tramitized me for a few days. All I can see is that little pink bike.

What a douche. One can only hope he keeps the little pink bike on the back to make people THINK he has a little girl in the car. But probably not. Something like that happens to me (not that I've ever driven a truck) I'd be shaking for days.
That's a lot of truck to stop.

I was walking across my parking lot to the bus stop one morning, and these guys in touring and avy gear are walking up Rachel Way at Jackson from one of the condos. I told them there was a shuttle coming, so they stopped. We rode the shuttle to the base, and they caught up to me in tram line after getting lift tickets. This is an incredibly shitty morning - hasn't snowed in a while, stupid firm, and we're headed up a half-empty tram after walking by a mountain ambassador warning people about conditions in the bowl.

I started talking to one of the guys, and he asks me what I know about Granite Canyon. Tells me they're headed straight there to ski it, "because that's where the goods are." I pointedly looked around the tram and asked him if he saw anyone else with gear or even anyone anyone else who looked like they knew what they were doing skiing that morning. Then I asked him if he knew where he was going. "I've been there before," came the answer. "We haven't had anyone die out there this year, yet," I told him. Again, "I've been out there before," and he stomped off to the other side of the tram to talk to a patroller. I don't think anything of it.

A few days later, a friend sends me this article: https://pitchengine.com/buckrail/201...44943384660490

I saw the title, blew it off. Then later that day, I read it, and looked at the pictures. Syverson was the guy I was talking to in the tram. Day was made.

tldr; The guy and his buddy got lost in Granite. He spent two days out there before SAR found him. He's fine.
This one seriously raises the bar

Again, not a gaper quote but I rode the chair yesterday with a guy who taught at the same Jr. HS that I went to. He told me he left in 1970 and I was there a couple years later. That tells you how old I am so you can imagine how old he is but still getting after it. Good on ya man.

Best Gaper qoute of the weekend?

.I learned something yesterday at the Beav. Super sticky snow, 50+ degrees. Total herky jerky everywhere.

Guy on the lift told us that the reason the snow was so sticky was because it was windy last night and the sap from the trees had blown all over the snow and therefore it was really sticky

    The more you know!

That sap is the only reason you can stack the moguls for the summer without having to tie them down... '10-'11 was an awesome snow year, but we ended up chasing moguls around the parking lot all summer. Should cross post to the annoying shit thread....

So now I'm wondering...does the old ski advice change to "dress for the top, wax for the sap?"

I was hesitant to approach this individual to get a good picture. Have never seen him on the hill before. Wondering what type of gear he sports.

A guy walked up to me while I was putting my skis on after the walk to the wall on Snowmass.

    "Hey man.... need any tips?"
    Me: "nah... I'm good"
"Well, you shouldn't ski this alone.... especially on tele"

Me:"oh.... thanks, I'll try to keep them pointed downhill.... later."

Who asks if someone needs any tips?
