[NSR] my bro -and the Cannonbal One Lap starts today!!!!!

[sorry, not ski related, but it's summer.... we all have summer hobbies...]

Talked to my brother, they were in Indiana yesterday getting registration out of the way..

so they officially start today! He's with car #4 the Porsche 996 TT driving with Mark DaVia who has done this at least the past 2 or 3 years. I know he was 5th overall last year.

unfortunately my brother is poor like me, so he won't be doing any of the speed events cause he can't afford to fix the car if he were to crash it or anything, which sucks cause he would rule it, i know. But mark is a good friend of his and an equally awesome driver so be on the look out for them! ---->www.onelapofamerica.com

That's awesome. The One Lap event inspired me to attempt the True One Lap (San Diego - Seattle - Boston - Miami - San Diego) in the VW Beetle.

He's picked a great car for the job. The 996 Turbo is fast and grippy yet comfortable.

Best of luck to him. Wish I was there.

Not the current One Lap. The real Cannonball, yeah, that was pretty nutso. This one, they just drive between tracks. Points/time (can't remember which) only get awarded for on-track performance, not getting to/from the tracks.

Of course, all those machines, possibly a few speed limits are broken in between events.

Lynx, that's awesome, always love reading the writeup on the event in Car & Driver. Hopefully this will be the year I finally make it to the track.

its all crazy though, cause they have to be at a new track EACH day. so there is a lot of driving between events and not so much sleep, especially when you try to obey speed limits (and let me tell you, my family and speeding tickets.....not the best record.......) i remember when Mark did the one lap the first time, he said he lost like 10 pounds cause he went on a specific diet to keep them more awake and alert rather than eat burger king all the time.

Will Dom DeLuise and Burt Reynolds make an appearance? With additional star-studded cameo appearances?

Uh, this doesn't really look like "one lap of America," but still cool as fuck.

edit: here is a history of the one lap and how it did in fact start as a "no-holds-barred" race across the country http://www.onelapofamerica.com/About/about.htm

yeah....i don't know the story on that really..i.e. how many sponsors the car has already and what not.... maybe he will try that for next year ?

but I DO KNOW THEY ARE IN FIRST PLACE RIGHT NOW!!!!! WOOO!!!

i guess after today at sears point their lead went from like 15 to 5 but they are still in first for now. my brother's shop has put a ton of work into that car, so it's awesome to see it paying off. it will be interesting to see how the results continue to go/change as the drivers get more and more sleep deprived, heh

Very cool Lynx; it's great to hear that your brother is doing so well.

    [hi-jack]

A good friend sent me the following link about his brother-in-law's entry in the GumBall 3000.

Thats awesome Lynx, where is your brothers shop?

Mischief 3000 was done by Tekademics and DTMPower, the Nova/DC/MD BMW crew. There was a prequel to that Mieschief flick that had lots of street racing around NoVa, in a few shots you can see my car and myself at the races. The DC area used to be THE east coast racing hot spot along with parts of philly....good times were had.
