Well... they're "reporting" over a foot in the last few days, and they haven't opened any new terrain since before Christmas. There's no reason that areas like the South Chutes and a few others shouldn't be open.
By the way, their snow report is still too fucked-up to bother looking at. The 6:00 report shows 5" new with 10" in the last 48 hrs. The 8:00 report shows 3.5" new with 9.5" in the last 48. Someone explain that to me?

I'm starting to get pretty pissed at the lack of terrain open. I realize it's been a tough snow year, but you can't tell me that this recent snow isn't enough to get some more shit open.

Talk to the people who rode rocks and grass in the newly opened back bowls at vail. Is it worth it? Maybe, maybe not.

I was up on Tuesday and the advanced terrain under chair 1 was still pretty damn windswept and rocky at the top. Despite the new snow, I didn't think it was worth playing hooky today to ski more low angle blue/green runs. I am hoping the saturday night storm followed by the monday night storm will get some real terrain open. This season has been a bummer, the antithesis of last year for sure.

The only thing mid-January is the calendar, the snow coverage is early November. There are more rocks under 4 than an Italian coastline. More coreshots than Brock Lesner. People getting a boner over the snow are headed for P-Tex town.

Up here today and the wind did wonders to fill in under 1. Pretty sure they could open it. If 4 or at least south chutes isnt open after this impending storm im gonna burn the place down.

We seem to be hitting an all-time high on the TGR Impotent Rage Meter. Think I will just go to Shelf Road and climb rocks.
Also, props on the "more core-shots than Brock Lesnar" bit."Buy the Fucking Plane Tickets!"

I just got back from a morning at Loveland, its snowed all morning and was getting heavier as I left. Snow was outstanding, 10" over last two night seemed spot on to me, and the place was empty up until Noon-ish. For what is open, everything skied great.

tourism was very low, so is the bank account. the ONLY thing that will get us more terrain now, this late in the season is snow.

Thinking about the pass tomorrow. Anyone hit it in the afternoon and saw how much it was douched?

South chutes have been skiing great for months, no rocks whatsoever! just ski em, they are an easy poach. just make sure you ski down past the bottom of 9 and pop out lower on lower turtle creek way down below 2 midload for less chance of getting caught coming back in.
There is absolutely no reason that terrain isn't open besides laziness on the part of LSP.

This, coming from the east coast areas where 'some walking required' and 'adventure skiing' @ places like Magic has frustrated me enough that I might get an epic pass next year instead of LL. I make sure to tell this to every patroller I talk to, and since there's a patroller for every 4 people on the hill they hear it a lot from me. Only one was cool and skied Nix woods with me, the rest were the usual...

I am aware that it is a bad snow year, but I firmly believe that Loveland can safely open more terrain, just as all the other northern Colorado ski areas have done. I think we should all send Loveland an email (marketing@skiloveland.com) and post on their facebook stating such. Here is what I wrote:
Dear Loveland,
I'd like to voice my disappointment about the terrain that is currently open. I realize that this has been a poor snow year, which clearly effects the terrain that can safely be opened, and I appreciate that the ski area is interested in a positive experience for all guests.
That being said, Loveland is reporting 128 inches on the year, which is 1/3 of its annual average; and more than anywhere in the state but Wolf Creek. Despite the low snow year, the other northern colorado ski areas have found ways of opening significant portions of their terrain.
I feel that there is terrain that can safely be open right now that is not; including the South Chutes. This belief is reaffirmed by the fact that I have witnessed ski patrollers lapping the South Chutes for the last two months. I know that these ski patrollers are not going back there for avalanche control or other work for two reasons: 1) They are often volunteer patrollers who do not participate in avalanche control. 2) Myself and other people have followed them multiple times and watched them simply ski the chutes top to bottom without stopping, going so fast they haven't even noticed us.
I am coming to the conclusion that Loveland Ski Area does strive to open terrain as the snow conditions allow. Because of this my friends and I will not be renewing our Loveland passes next year.

I'm told that you are an extremely knowledgeable and experienced Colorado skier, and everyone who knows you says you are a good person, and I believe it. But, sometimes I feel like you jump into threads, stir up some trouble, then leave without explaining yourself. I think that given your significant knowledge you could contribute more to this community by sharing this extensive knowledge than by calling people that you do not know punks.

Wow, calling Mike Records a punk is about the dumbest thing ever. He is legit Loveland kiddie crew and one of the reasons Loveland is so special. You should check yourself.

Mike I hold the midweek pass and haven't been back in a long time now, other areas I ski are making the most of this snow year, just as you say. I pity those without alternatives.
Watching the nationals ski closed terrain must be a bitter pill. Damn.Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.

Damn, the dramarado epidemic hits even Loveland.

Surprised to hear they still haven't opened anything since I was there a few weeks ago. Hopefully this new snow helps kick them into gear. A-basin has been dropping a few ropes lately and it sure has been nice to get on something ungroomed for once.

Supposed to get super windy tonight again - that could refresh things - or just scour. We'll see.
