Additional Health Insurance (on top of current plan)

First of all, I did do a search but couldn't find anything on this exact subject.

There are some changes happening effective Jan 1 in the health insurance that I currently have. Turns out that the health insurance plan I have now will no longer cover certain things that I participate in- namely rock/ice climbing and out of bounds skiing. I'm currently on a plan through my dad (I'm 21 and in school). This plan is ok overall, and it covered all but 2k of the $37k medical expenses I had 2 years ago when I shattered my shoulder skiing in bounds. The kicker though- my Dad is on the board of the company and was involved in changing the health insurance for next year...

I need to pick up an extra plan that will cover backcountry skiing/mountaineering/climbing as I don't want to be screwed if I get hurt in one of these activities.

The main issue that I have is that I need something that covers these activities but doesn't cover the other stuff so much that the insurance companies would fight each other over payment if I were to be hurt in "normal" activities around town, etc.

    Any ideas?

So if you get hurt in one of those activities they won't cover your injuries? That's fucked up!!

Exactly-if the health insurance company were to find out that I got hurt skiing backcountry or ice climbing they would not cover my medical bills. Fucked up? Yes.

Nope- AFLAC is more along the lines of temporary unemployment insurance.

    Any other ideas?

50% of all the bankruptcies filed last year were due to health issues. 75% of those people were insured at the start of the health issue.

according to the movie sicko anyway...

I never heard of health insurance plans that exclude specific activities like that. Besides, if your Dad is on the board, he/you can afford to buy the coverage you want.
Battle lines being drawn, nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong, old people speaking their minds, getting so much resistance from behind.
