Was there this weekend. You can drive to the gate. Coverage is very thin below the apron of TC.
It's filled in well, but the top section still has exposed rock. Click image for larger version.

Anyone know what happened over the weekend in the Rubies? Snow, or rain, or some combo there of?

When watching tahoe's radar I kept noticing a large shield of blue over the area. Betting it did fairly to very well

I drove by there last week and did some recon looking at a zone I've been wanting to get into the last few years. Coverage is ass down low. Things up high look fine but approaches suck. Bring some dirt shoes.

I didn't go into lamoille so have no idea what's going on in Disneyland. But like here, they would have needed feet of concrete to make it anything 'normal'. You could still have some fun though.

This looks super fun. Do you get to the area often? I was hoping to find someone quasi-local to trade some beers for some basic conditions beta come mid-winter...

I'm in tahoe. Usually head out there for a weekend each year. usually someone on here can provide recent beta. The Heli ski operation may also provide info on conditions.
Access to TC and the canyon is pretty straight forward. Getting all of the way back can make for a long skin of the road is covered......sled recommended.

^^ Exactly, the Heli outfit will give you beta. You can ski TC without a sled but that about it.

Did you go over the weekend or planning to in the nxt wk? I was looking for beta on conditions, too. Will probably call heli outfitter after today's storm finishes up, but worth asking before hand!

I got conditions report from Ruby Mtn heli/cat ops today, 12/23:

We have been working in our cat terrain, so we have not been in Lamoille Canyon. We have had two valid reports that similar to the Wasatch there is an ongoing cycle. Probably 10-15 avalanches on the road, the largest being 20 feet deep. The wind continues to rip. Simply we are avoiding that terrain, and will until conditions improve, both WX and avalanche. The snow has been wind affected, and its skiing up side down.

We may be operating our snow cats around the 26th, it’s hard to say. The mountains are schedules to receive another foot of snow over Christmas.

There is a lot of snow, but it is incredibly dangerous. All aspects above 8k would rated at high.

Hope this helps, Lamoille is a great spot to visit, but you would need to be very careful in the immediate future.

Just dropping in to this thread to see if anyone has been out in the Great Basin recently, and what the conditions are like? I've been seeing a lot of media coming back from the rubies, but not a lot of solid reports.
Anyone been anywhere else in Nevada recently as well? Trying to get a feel for snowpack and depth, specifically in the central part of the state.

Rubies are doing very well. We came back via 50 and the Toiyabes also looked to be doing especially well.
i would guess by now though most of terminal cancer is bumped.

Last time to the Rubys we came back via Highway 50, which was a first for me during the daylight. Seeing the Toiyabe Range and Sand Mountain I knew I had to go back. A week later, I did. Got kind of stymied as far as getting on anything big but still had fun. Pics and a write up on http://www.powdork.com/2016/wandering-in-the-desert/
