Rain crust on all aspects at Vail made for an interesting day. Felt like I was breaking ice to set decoys for duck hunting. Face shots were butter brickle chunks to the teeth. Good times! Asked 4 patrollers if they were opening 5 today and they all said tomorrow. I shoulda known better. Bad job by me. Interested to hear how it skied

42 in the village. Tomorrow is warmer and Friday looks even warmer. Still pretty amazing this much stuff is open. The good weather means good roads for my drive to the 307 tomorrow.

It was dangerous, but was fun as hell. You had to make sure your tips never dove or you were gonna put your face in broken glass. The sun turned it to silky butter as soon as out came out. It was good enough that I lapped it from gate drop to close. As luck had it, I got off 11 and skied past the patroller dropping the gate.

70 in the 303 today and tomorrow and 50 up here. Going to be a super nice weekend. Next weeks storm has the potential to be very warm and wet with a high snow line. Happy Thanksgiving weather kooks. Lots to be thankful for!

No consistent model runs for next week, it's still early though. I wonder if these these hyped El Nino patterns will ever kick in.

Lots of high temp records broke today in SoCal. We'll probably come damn close to breaking some over the weekend.

    Weird season start for sure!

Denver having record highs. Down in SW CO the weather went to crap, 60degrees at 8000ft. And this is November. That's the kicker. Oh, we are losing snowpack with the sun low in the sky, if this was March it would be close th eighty degrees.

Skied Abasin yesterday. Spent most of the day in Lenawee Parks and had a pretty damn good time. Lots of little bumps and rollers to pop off of. Coverage was superb - only a couple of rocks/bare spots here and there. They were working on West Wall, but as of 1pm it didn't look like they were going to be able to get it open. Probably dropped the rope today if they didn't get to it yesterday. Real warm at the base, but snow up top stayed pretty nice.

Shock is open at Breckenridge. it is never open in November, Hell, I've rarely seen it open in mid December.

Now, never know if the storms will keep coming thru; summit county might not get a good storm the whole month of December; but I like the chances for a 2nd great season in a row.

China opened today....certainly early for that opening. Forecasts don't look great for cold and snow for the next 10 days but who really knows?!

Snow is pretty awful in the Vail bowls. Just about every gaper who ventured off the groomer wrecked hard!

There is an ice crust on top of an already heavy layer of snow. Looks are certainly a bit deceiving out there.

It basically went from November to March. Freeze thaw. Freeze thaw.

Its actually a rain crust. A wierd localized warm flow hit Copper, Vail and Steamboat. Nasty raincrust on all aspects up to at least 12k. Dumped some graupal on top in areas also - loose graupal on raincrust with a yet-to-fall next storm layer is gonna be insanely dangerous. Really fucked up the snowpack in those areas bigtime. Probably won't go away for a long time. Bummer - was off to such a good start. Hah, even got huckneck off a 15'er today - never thought that would happen!

Well letting the punters mash it down will probably help, a busy sunday could bust up a lot of crust and get inbounds ready for the next storm cycle.
