No snow yet in Eagle. Hoping the NW flow gets kicking for some early AM pow at Vail.

This storm generally under-performed. A foot of snow at Alta really isn't that much...just an indication that this storm didn't have it together.

Steamboat was a surprise at 11"...and only 1-2" in Summit was a bit surprising, but this kinda thing happens there.

A few more weak storms on the horizon...I'll take anything to keep a few flakes around.

CPC's long-range for the next two weeks looks kind of meh. Hopefully the persistent lack of agreement by the models coalesces into a stormier pattern

So, I guess Steamboat AGAIN came out well above expectations? 20" in the last two days, 90" in November.

    Wish I were there today

The "Steamboat Surprise" was in full effect yesterday. I really, honestly, don't get it. The nearest SNOTEL (Tower) to Steamboat usually comes in at 1.5x(+) what Steamboat gets, but it was less this time. It seems that Steamboat may have gotten more than Buff Pass? Can't believe this is true and would love some firsthand reports.

The wind direction wasn't ideal for Steamboat, but some upper-level lift + good temperatures at mountaintop level seemed to do the trick.

    Joel,

I have to say, the Keep Me Honest posts are pretty sweet. I like your comparisons to your accuracy vs. CAIC and NOAA. Glad I have you now on my Google Reader.

15 inches at powderhorn? Where did that come from?

CB is actually skiing quite nicely right now. Paradise is open. and it looks like only 1 or 2 more good storms and the extremes will have nice coverage to open.

FYI the Aspen weather station has been messed up for several days. It has been running an average of 15 deg high. A couple days ago, when it was maybe 38 deg., it registered 61.

Stoked on this early snow. It's gonna set-up for a kick ass season! I'm looking to hit up a ton of different areas now because so much is open so soon. I get bored with Vail area and SuCo-- and because they are nearly 100% open so soon, the sooner I'll be branching out.

    -Silverton
    -Taos
    -Crested Butte
    -Aspen/Snowmass

And the usual trips to JH and UT

Is Snowmass full price tickets right now? anyone know if they still have that 4-pack deal running right now?

They are least $79 now, probably more. The classic pass deal ended a couple weeks ago. And to be honest, Snowmass doesn't have much good terrain open right now.

Even this Friday into Saturday could be decent. Fireweather is fairly bullish for its Bert totals (10 inches by Saturday).

I think Taos has it's usual La Nina base of about a foot. Maybe I can ride my bike down there during X-mas.

    SNOTEL 24hr increments

As a bit of community outreach and due to the fact that I couldn't find this anywhere else, I'm keeping tabs on the amount of snow falling at the SNOTEL network in Colorado. This should update every three hours. It's not an operational product or official in any way - it's mostly just for my monitoring. If there are some weird looking values, it's probably bad data - I only do some basic QC. Enjoy ...

If it doesn't show up, it should look like this:

And just to compare how this season is going to last year .... Pali at A-Basin was skiing nice last Saturday. 'troller at the top said it was something like the first time in 30 years since Pali was open in November - not sure if that's so, but I don't remember A-Basin being that good on T-Day.

Grizzly Pk SNOTEL is near A-Basin. The Eldora station has been out of action for over a week

Blizzard - Great graphics. Have 'em book marked.

The storm on Fri is interesting - tons of moisture, but high temps and little cold air advection. Will be a nice storm, but the 2 FOOT forecast from CAIC seems a bit over done (definitely on the high side of lucky). Few inches from NWS seems low. I like it in between...

Between Fri and Mon (storm with good moisture and better dynamics), the next few days should be fun.

Speaking of fun, here's a cool vid that I found from Red Mountain in Canada:

CRAZY warm last night and this morning already. Hope this system pans out...I'd hate to see rain on the valley floor, but tomorrow looks WARM.

I'll wear a tshirt that reads "I will gladly suck off Nick Saban" if it appreciably rains tomorrow.
