vail was fluffy and bouncy today. back bowls were pretty creamy in the morning. seiberts stash was kneedeep in spots. woulda done an EV but partners were all workin' today so im gonna get some work done....
yo ms. whatre your thoughts about this southern storm, we gonna get good leftovers again? I don't know we squeezed as many inches as we did given the flow but i'm all for it. and its still decently cold....
[edit] - anyone that's been doing EV today. Curious if it is windy up there...on saturday I witnessed one of the most intense windloading events I'd ever seen. The bootpack got blown into over waist deep in places before my eyes in a matter of maybe 10 minutes.Last edited by Puffin; 02-22-2010 at 12:52 PM.

^^^ CAIC has mention of that event in todays report. Brief but intense apparantly. Always hard to say how much snow we'll get from those southern events but we'll get some. Look forward to a few inches on Wed/Thurs with a more favorable flow.

Vail was great today. Not as good as that Monday 4 weeks ago, but virtually no lines today. What's the thought on Monarch this weekend?

nuclear winter on berthoud over the weekend, light flakes by the time you got to town.
WP opened the cirque and I had chest deep face shot runs...I'd say a foot up high for the Jane yesterday and 6 down low/park. I'd bet berthoud picked up a foot more than WP reported for the storm.looking for a good book? check out mine! as fast as it is gone

I mean the weekend coming up. I have to imagine this past weekend was just off the hook. They posted some amazing numbers the last few days.

Monarch was excellent Sunday. Not the deepest day I have had there but very soft a fluffy. I bet you will be able to find fresh tracks in Mirkwood until Thursday when there is a chance of more snow.

I bet Monarch was ridiculous today. I would have been there hadn't gotten sick yesterday. Damn you cold/flu season.

light snow tomorrow night and Thurs morn. Then a sunny day on Friday before a good event for the south with perhaps some snow for the north.

NOAA is getting pretty psyched for the Northern/Central mtns. Forecast is from the top of Vail basically.
Today: A 30 percent chance of snow after 11am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. West wind around 15 mph.
Tonight: Snow. Low around 14. Breezy, with a west wind between 15 and 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Thursday: Snow. High near 24. West northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Thursday Night: Snow. Low around 11. Northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Advisory for 6-12 in place as well. Let's hope for the best. Another 6-12 would just be awesome.

What's the 2-4" gonna do to the avy danger for SuCo?
I really want things to stabilize for this weekend....

snowing pretty good this morning in Vail. Pretty typical orographic event now until it ends. Maybe 3-5 more. High pressure tomorrow, and I don't expect much from the weekend. High pressure again for next week at least a couple of days before another system.
Gunit- Avy danger will probably stay considerable with pockets of high...you can still ski stuff, just make good decisions.

Skiing, whether you're in Wisconsin or the Alps, is a dumbass hick country sport that takes place in the middle of winter on a mountain at the end of a dirt road.

Ankle deep in Inner Mongolia, Boot deep in Outer. Best stuff on the mtn.
Lackluster day, but better than sitting at my desk.__

so it has been a snowy couple of weeks void of high pressure which has rocked. It seems like this weekend may drop a couple of inches with most of the energy staying well south. Next week looks like a high pressure followed by another storm. Basically the same pattern we've had for awhile. Temps are beginning to edge toward more spring like with temps in the high 30s on the high pressure days. Hopefully, the full scale pattern change that normally comes with the Nino is soon. Storms should stop digging south and be more of an impact for the central and northern mtns thru March and April.

The 3 day periodocity is a nice, progressive cycle. Let's keep the fingers crossed for a bigger pattern change for a huge spring! The storm next week looks pretty decent on the models.

Durango...Silverton...eastern Sangre de Cristos...Taos could do well, but I don't have a great feel for that area...I'll watch this storm and see how it goes. Other mountains in Colorado could do OK Sunday afternoon and evening with moist northerly flow, but this will just be a "freshening" event with a few inches...nothing too major.
In other news, does anyone know Steve from powderchasers.com? I see "Powder Alerts" go out, but not sure if there's more involved. Thanks!
