talk to me about Crackberry/iphone
It looks like I'm going to be spending a bunch of time on the road without a reliable internet connection and I'm looking at possibly picking up something that will allow me to read e-mail/web browse on the go.
I've got AT&T now, so the iPhone is an option but I'm completely clueless when it comes to this stuff and I'd prefer to get the info from people I trust(ie maggots) vs some commissioned sales guy at the mall or an AT&T store
I guess my biggest question is plan wise how much more expensive is it to have vs just a cell? For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

Price wise, its going to raise your monthly bill by $20-$65.
Do you want to have access to email/web on your mobile device (phone) or on your laptop? If on laptop, then you may want to consider a wireless data card for the laptop. If you go that way, Verizon's service is pretty fast. ATT has a 3G network, but it doesn't have the coverage of VZW yet.
A Blackberry or iPhone or Windows Mobile phone will allow you to access the web on the phone, and will send/receive email. iPhone is very nice (I have one), but the data part is slow. If web surfing on the road is important, it may not be your best option since it runs on ATT's EDGE network.**

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

I'd liken smart-phones to the bow-flex or communism. GREAT IDEA, but just doesn't work out as planned. I have had every variation of the Treo for work (as well as two different blackberrys) and while they can be useful, they are ultimately slow and far more likely to crash than a normal phone (in essence, you have a little computer... complete with viruses). The internet connection is nice on the post-coffee take the browns to the superbowl mission but is never going to be something you just sit down and use when any other medium is available. The iphone is a different animal but just something to keep in mind if YOU are paying the data charge. Good luck!

the data charge is whats gonna kill me. I've got my PSP for surfing but I'm totally dependent upon finding a wifi hotspot. E-mail via PSP is readable, but a pain in the ass to write with. I'm beginning to think that a cheap laptop w/ data card might be a better solution. For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

I get unlimited internet access on my Samsung x820 through T-Mobile for only $5 a month. I can download as much as I want and send as much data as I want ... all for $5.

b) My blackberry worldphone is dope. Fast email, great surfing for a PDA, and super reliable. That's all."All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. We must never, ever be boring."

I've got a blackberry for my regular phone and an ipaq for work...
IMO, if you have a laptop just get a wireless card. its nice for work when I'm stuck in meetings to be able to go through emails or play solitaire if I'm bored, but for pure functionality PDAs suck. would much rather just have a laptop. and typing emails on those tiny little keyboards is about impossible.
