DIN adjustment on ... Marker 14.0 Free
I bought Marker 14.0 Free. Mounted on K2 Apache Chief in 174. I bet the shop made a standard position mount, but I haven't seen the setup yet. Skis will see powder prefferably, will ski groomers on them too. My everyday ski.
Im 5.8 ft and 139 lb. What DIN level should I adjust? Confident on piste, whatever the terrain and conditions. Newbie in offpiste stuff and powder.
The second question. How to make pre-releasing the least possible on Marker? Is it really true that they suck so badly that I should bin them ...? I wish I went with Sollys / Rossis / Looks. But hey I haven't been on them yet.

You would need your boot sole length, ability, and age to get your "recommended DIN" and them with a Marker, I typically add 2 and ski to see if it was enough.
It is a less then scientific method, but they are Markers after all!

OK, we're getting close... only it's got to be one or the other, and there is no 2+. Basically the higher you go the highter the DIN, and the harder the fall it takes to release. There's considerations on both sides... if you go too low for your ability level the binding could pre-release when you don't want it to, like near a cliff or when skiing through trees, causing you to loose control. The flip side of that is going to high over your ability and having the ski never releasing. Of course, even with the right selection it's never a guarantee to release under all circumstances.
Choose wisely Daniel-san.

I will go with 3 as I like to ski more aggressively more often.
I would hate to experience pre-release. When there is some shit about to happen I usually know it and can prepare myself to do something to make it less painful. Pre-release doesn't give me that much of a time and I will end up faceplanting or even worse.
I have rental Tyrolias (I think SD 9 simpro) adjusted to 7 or 8 and they are ok for groomers. The other side is that they are shit and they feel like going to explode in a second. Im afraid to charge on those skis.

Sorry man... you've got all the info for finding out your din... I just don't have a chart in front of me to tell you what it is. I'll try later.

Got it duder... Skier type L, DIN 6.
But... I'd still take em to a shop to have them tested to ensure they're releasing at a 6. Because even though you can set them at a desired DIN, it doesn't mean they'll release at that setting. On that binding they start at a 5, which means you don't have a lot of room for calibration.
Do yourself a favor, spend a couple of bucks to make sure they're safe and releasing where they should be. Forward pressure is crucial and it's a whole lot cheaper to pay for the test than to screw it up and pay for a broken body.
Oh, and to answer your other question about them sucking? They don't. I've been skiing them for years and never once had an issue. Most people that like to complain are speaking of old Markers, it's not an issue anymore. Be happy with your purchase, plenty of ripping skiers ski them.Last edited by kiedaisch; 11-27-2007 at 11:19 AM.
