doesn't anyone else have the sinking feeling of another horrible terrorist attack right around the corner. i have to admit that i'm serioulsy worried about the possibility of at least a chem/bio attack, or even a nuclear one. it's just too easy, and the attackers just don't care enough. without the threat of 'mutual destruction' which held the cold war truce, what would stop them. hopefully a conscience.

anyways, all of that just makes me want to ski more.

There is little point in worrying, my friend. I honestly was not surprised by the scope or scale on 9-11 except that it didn't happen earlier. I was suprised by their method though. I am suprised there hasn't been anything major here since then. It would be easy as pie for terrorists to carry out suicide bombings in Walmart and Starbucks.

What happens will happen. The only thing you can do is go about your life as you should and maybe prepare a little bit. Keep a 2 week supply of food, water, and other supplies like people did when we were afraid Joe Stalin was gonna lob some nukes at us.

I don't worry too much about terrorism where I am except about an influx of front range refugees in the event of an attack on Denver. There isn't enough food here for them. I am more worried about a 1897 scale blizzard. The 1897 blizzard cut off this county for a month. Back then people had a 1-2 month supply of food and there were no droves of hundreds of thousands of unprepared tourists and no CDOT telling people "you can't drive because of avvy danger." It was simply a case of people were unable to get out of the county because of 40ft high snow drifts. They had powerfull rotary snow plows powered by heavy railroad locamotives but they couldn't reach Boreas Pass station from South Park. Despite this, nobody starved.

The blizzard last year cut off this county for 2.5 days mostly because of accidents and CDOT road closings due to avvy danger. In that short time, the super markets had almost no food left on the shelves, resturaunts ran out of most dishes, and the gas stations were all out of gas (except for their small premium tanks).

I also wonder whether or not an attack is imminent. Historically, the attacks have been preceded by video releases from Osama Never-bin-laidin. The last release was, what, two or three weeks ago? This, after two years silence.

I'm certain that something will happen, eventually. Perhaps even where I'm living, but it's not something that I will worry over.

I am not too worried about anything major going down any time soon. My basis for this is that if they could have done it, they already would have. I think there are simply too many barriers right now (they know we're watching and more careful), and as has been well-publicized it's not as easy as people thought to disperse bio and small nuke weapons. Damage can be done in a large population center, but it's not going to be on a massive scale like many fear.

Anyway, I think it's more likely they would have kicked us when the defenses were down if it was feasible, like right after the 9-11 hits to add to the general pandemonium and panic. I tend to be a real pessimist in general, but unless my intuition is seriously out of whack these days--I have to say I don't feel ominous vibes these days.

This seems like a relevant question. Has anyone read "Dude where is my country?" by Michael Moore? He always seem to have some intriguing information to share/sell.

not to get into politics too much, but if I am bored enough to read propoganda, sure... I'll listen to Moore. Usuall I prefer writers who don't outright lie and manipulate the facts.

Goebbels woulda been impressed by Moore's work.

Believe it or not, there is too much of a good thing. 8 feet in a week is incredible! 30ft in a week would be disasterous.

I think you're confusing Moore with Bush and the boys (including Fox News). If you don't like Moore, read Chomsky. He's one of the best minds America has right now.

I dunno - I try to take a page from the ppl who live in Israel and Palestine. If they can go about their everyday lives in the midst of the unrest in that region I guess I can too.

I understand being worried but I also understand beyond being aware of my surroundings there is not a lot worrying will do to help me.

So..........I think about the coming winter, the smell of the mountains, the squeak of the snow, a raven, black as night, taking flight through hills white with snow...........and dream of a better place and time.
