What are these Fischer RC4 GS skis?
Another ski swap acquisition -- bought for the bindings, but the skis look to be in nice condition.
Identifying marks on them:
-193cm
-"Fischer RC4 worldcup giant slalom"
-"frequency tuning" and "aircarbon titanium"
->21m
-plastic riser plates
-etched neatly into the underside, at the tips, is "2 03" -- ? February 2003?
Sidecut isn't marked on the skis anywhere. Anyone know the year of manufacture and sidecut?
The edges are nice and sharp, and bases are immaculate. I think I'll try them out for a groomer ski.

'03 sounds about right. >21 means these are Race Stock and FIS-legal. 21m is the minimum and actual sidecuts were secret and constantly in flux on race stock models, so not printed onto the graphics. Fischers were among the best at the time too.
Expect them to be really freaking fast.
Considering there's tons of these floating around, I would expect them to be ~$200-$250 with bindings (8-18, right?)

As long as you have the space to let them run, race stock skis kick ass...have fun

EDIT: I was too slow. But anyway:
It´a Fischer GS racestock ski. -03/04 I think. Radius is FIS legal, >21m. Around 24-25 m I would guess from skiing it. The Fischer line of racestocks came in two different flexes some years, hard and soft. I don´t know how it was in -04, but overall it´s a great hard snow ski. It´s rather easy to ski in comparasion to many 190+ size gs racestocks, however most people would like the 188 or even the 183 version better.
With the correct trim these skis will make you ski like a god on ice. I have the 183 and I bring it out on the really icy days. It has happened more than once that people then ask me: "how the f**k can you ski like that in this shitty conditions". I mostly convince them to try my Fischers for one run and I take their skis. The result is allways the same. I look like Bambi on ice, they ski like on tracks with a smile and says "how much for these wondersticks?"
The plate is all flat and accepts all bindings btw. A great feature compared to the Tyrolia only plates of the retail models.Last edited by MnO; 11-12-2007 at 12:47 PM.

Graphics are definitely 03/04. Assuming you got them fairly cheap, nice catch.

The FIS rules changed this year correct? Is it at 27m radius now?

Like he said, I have these in the 183 length as well and they are unbelievable. At 193 I imagine your going to have to carry some pretty serious speed to crank turns and whatever you do, don't get in the backseat!

5-14 "FKX" bindings (turntable heels though). But quite a bit cheaper than $200.
Yep - it was a flat plastic plate, not predrilled for anything.
These don't flex particularly stiff. The tips are stiffer than the tails; tips feel about like Head im85 tips; tails feel like Nordica Blower tails (for comparison with other skis I have sitting around). At 193cm, they are actually a little longer than the 193 Blowers.
Thanks for all the responses. I think with the really sharp edges and nice bases, these will be fun on hardpack.

Sucker. I got the newer ones with 916s.
If either of our pairs ski anything like my race stock Solly GS skis, they're going to RIIIIIIIIIIP. I'd be willing to bet they're even better.
I actually might not take the bindings off just yet and see how they do on groomers.
I kind of regret giving up those other Fischers to A. Partly because I'm really interested in the skis themselves. Can you ask him if he is going to use the skis, and if not I'd be interested in them.Last edited by Arty50; 11-13-2007 at 12:08 AM.

I've got the model after those in 193, 188 and 183 from the racing days. Loved them all the 193's do need some room to run but, step on them and they'll be there if your quads are.
Unfortunately thoses are not 'racestock' they are still the 'prosumer' race stock model, but there's no need in 'racestock' unless you race in FIS level and higher. Good grab for the cash and a quality product.I ski therefore I am.

I ran a pair of these in Masters racing the past couple seasons, i love them to bits! Good score mang!
I mean, umm, they're total crap, i think you should sell them to me for a really good price. Friends don't let friends ski on garbage...

I thought you passed those to Corky at the swap. If not -- A is Blood Sweat Steel here -- send him a PM.
If you really want them, PM me an offer (but I'm keeping the bindings). I don't need GS skis, just thought I'd try skiing them since they're in nice condition.

thats an 04-05 ski. Definitely not an 03.
Very nice ski. Big and FAST. Be a good beer league super g screamer. But too big for most nastar type courses.

I do not think many of the Fischer skis in this vintage had system plates that were predrilled and lock you into a brand of bindings. Most were a flat plate- the cheater GS skis looked the same, but had more curved top sheet at the binding plate area. The RX8 series again had flat plates for drilling any binding in the first era of them. Only later did Fischer start into the system plate using the Fischer/Tyrolia Freeflex bindings.

Correct, that plate accepts any binding. I have 2 pair of that vintage plate and have a solly on one and a Tyrolia on the other.

I think you are correct- the earlier than 03 skis had slightly different tips- black half moon shaped and slightly different tip protector if I remember correctly. They may or may not have changed the tip and tail dimensions too- but I am not sure on that. You can find a few web sites that have some of the old ski gear still on it in review style- Skipress, Canoe something site out of Canada had full .pdf of their earlier reviews (I'd have to search for the exact site).

I had some 04-05's. GOD they were FAST!! You could only make H-U-G-E turns with them though, which mean TWO TURNS on a hill in MN. Mine were 188's, and they were sold quickly. I would have LOVED them on some of the big open blue/black groomers out in CO though.

Fischer GS skis throughout the decade by top sheet . . .
01/02 - Yellow and black originals used by Bode, smooth top sheet (not "frequency tuning" top sheet)
02/03 - Yellow with black "webbing" throughout the ski, black tip. Also used by Bode.
03/04 - The skis pictured
04/05 - Yellow with LARGE Fisher written on the front half, otherwise very similar to the ones pictures in look (best looking model IMHO).
05/06 - Yellow with some green
06/07 - Yellow and red
I have owned every pair 01 through 06. All great skis. That model is from well before the FIS rule change. You will have fun on these, but I think the RC4 cheater GS skis with the ~16-18 Radius are even more fun.Last edited by Smails; 01-15-2008 at 04:54 PM.

193's are hero skis, but if you can handle them, there's NOTHING better on wide open groomers.
