Saw it came out today. Can it really be Tribe without Phife? That's like Beasties without MCA.

New Tribe has Phife. All new stuff, recorded before he passed. Just got it, haven't listened yet. New De La Soul is good. Actually, a lot better than I was expecting. The album starts a little slow, but there's a few gems in there.

After a few listens, the Tribe album is good, but nothing about it really stands out. That De La album, though. It gets better and better.
And since this is the old school thread, and I'm pumped to be getting some music in digital format that I haven't been able to listen to for many years since I had a tape player, I'll put this here for a special someone.

    Blurreds old school rap/hip-hop thread

For you mid-nineties, boom bap, East coast hip hop heads, check out Stretch and Bobbito on Netflix. Brought back some amazing memories of listening to those tapes in high school.

Has anything come out recently that's as good as Tribe's or De La's latest?

only 'cuz I have a coupla beers in my belly and feel like being a douche, but y'all are a bit misguided in your definition of Old School.
Old School refers to the period of rap music between 1979 - 1983. So most of what y'all are posting and yammering about is New School (Tribe, EPMD, Nas, etc).
Just sayin', from a historical viewpoint.
I love me some New School rap (most of what y'all are posting), so don't get me wrong. Just wanted to substantiate what Old School actually refers to.

Seriously? I always thought that was Old Old school, then shit from like 84-mid 90s was Old School, then New School was the horseshit that's out now. Anyway, ain't my thread...

New School technically begins with Run DMC and goes through the early '90s. Then you have sub-movements like True School (mostly Los Angeles based with groups like Freestyle Fellowship) and Gangsta (N.W.A., Ice-T, etc). Never really have heard what folks refer to post-New School as, but horseshit sounds about right in most cases.

This ishit ain't Old School by a long shot, but I dug it anyway as it's kinda retro to the early '90s. I'm diggin' the beat, the flow, and the sheer audacity of it (what the f$%k is up with those rims?).

At least they have "Old School" in the title to the song.
