The interface changes between the XT and XTi were significant.
Bigger LCD getting rid of the "bar" above the XT lcd.
Stuff moved into the viewfinder and the UI on the LCD vastly improved.
On boat you typically only have one chance at "magic shots" there are no "ok turn the boat around and do that again" opportunities.
There's no room to move around.
You're in the way.
If it lets loose and hits someone, its REALLY going to cost you.

Carbon will eventually fail from cyclic (lulz) loading. Rather catastrophically too.
That said, it probably won't fail in the normal amount of time you'd own/ride the bike.

They work fine. Infact way better than felt. Being carbide studded they cut into the rock very easily.
I do ocean drive constantly and have to move across a lot of open face scraggy rock.
