Big fat wet flakes just started falling here. Looks like a lot of places within a 2-3hr drive will be getting 10-20cm (3-6"). If I can find wheels, I'd like to hit something in northern NY on...

Fun weekend getting freshies in the Le Massif slackcountry
(also unintentionally met all the patrol at MDS, had a friendly patrol escort through the glades, intentionally had beer with them, ...

Rudeness, looks awesome (also haven't heard that song in ages). Why leave indeed. Forecast says another 15-20cm by Friday too.
I'll be at MDS Friday mid to late afternoon - hoping to get some...

NJFS, that looks awful. Hope it heals quickly and cleanly.

Thanks to a very rude PSA, destination for the weekend is now MDS. Let it snow.

That is impeccable timing and just insane goodness right there. I was planning ADKs this weekend but I might have to convince my touring partners to adjust our destination.

Looks like my decision has been made for me. I have to settle for 3-5" and the local hills due to vehicular challenges. Meanwhile WF is reporting 11" new and Gore is reporting 6".
There better be...

My options look Whiteface or Gore on Sat (or BC in the vicinity if there's someone to tour with who knows the area).
01-30-2013, 04:15 PM
Yeah, that made me chuckle. The other thing I found funny/odd were the trail maps nailed to trees. The parks people have a very managed approach to the BC.

Back from 3 days of skiing in the Chic-Chocs.
Prevailing winds gave us fresh tracks every day despite the cold and lack of precipitation. ...

Staying at a hut at the Mont Albert campsite. Agreed RE wind.

Pretty. I'm heading up there Thursday, and looks like it'll be warming up to a balmy -20 C (-5 F) Friday and holding pretty steady through the weekend.
"It is dangar size" sounds like a Roppongi lament

Nice link. Ajouté aux signets.

Great shots. Looks very tasty.

Cool news about Jacques-Cartier, makes a trip to Le Massif more entertaining with the additional closer option.
Looks like I'm moments away from being booked for a late January...

Wow, this really made me miss Japan and remember how awesome it was to jump on a train to escape the crazyness of Tokyo and head for the peace of the mountains.

No surprise there, I grew up in the Maritimes. I spent my childhood night skiing at -20 C or worse on the crappy mole-hills of NB and NS :D
10-23-2012, 02:51 PM
Thanks for the input everyone. Given the distances I'm inclined to aim for a lot of overnighting and sleeping in the car when the snow is good. I put a tele setup on an old pair of skis so that...

Thanks, Mr. MultiGlisse
Can you off-piste at Camp Fortune then? Or is frowned upon like in the rest of the park. Do they not care if you skin up during operating hours?
From what I was able...

I'm in Ottawa for the '12-13 season, now what?
Any maggots in the capital region?
Do I give in to being relegated to icy, short, lift serviced groomers or are there some options for a...

I cannot find these anywhere. There are a few mitts out there but no gloves.
What I want:
W/B shell only (no insulation) Gore, eVent, dry-tec, etc
full fingered or 1-3...
at least the ones you want to talk to should be. the rest are working stiffs and walking wounded.

If you had an old look turntable for your frankenbinding, you could flip it over (pos 1, flat), turn it around 180 and flatten (pos 2, middle), flip it up while still pointing the wrong way (pos 3,...
Hey, can we borrow that Haks snow while you're out? We kinda need some over here.
Get well soon, man.

I've got size 27.5 Salomon Crossmax 10s and a pair of 182cm Mothership Flites (mounted for 315mm) I can lend but in Vancouver (someone heading up could grab 'em I suppose - I'm probably stuck in the...
I love my bobcat. It's bomber and I can leave one section home if I want to shed weight/size.
Too bad they stopped making it. ...
Most expensive and most useless 'ski' lift ever built. A fine example of a solution in search of a problem.
Nah, Parliament passed a special law banning the commercial use of a whole slew of Olympic related words including 'games', 'winter' etc. Heck, VANOC copyrighted some parts of the national anthem. ...
Failure of the mechanism will have little if any consequence on the utility of the ski in the BC. You just lose the rocker, no big deal.

BrianC, this thread (Dynafit brakes for 120mm waist?) should have all the info you need.

Basically bending should not be a problem.
11-13-2008, 01:02 AM
You can also bend the brakes if you're so inclined. That's my plan anyway since I'm getting the same setup.
^ see post #12.
Keep us posted, CB. Glad to hear there may be a suitable resolution. A waste of time and a few headaches sure, but hopefully you can put the refund to good use in Haks.
Yup, Mt. Yotei looks great in pictures, but it does seem a little lonely.
Not being on the lease wouldn't matter if they deny the claim. So if they ask, tell them.
IMO it would be pretty easy to find out how many people live(d) there if you make a claim. When you...
All works now (FF3/Linux). Great stuff.
If you take out the question marks at the end the links PW put up work.
the best reason IMO is not the stuff but the liability insurance - you don't want to be on the hook if a guest injures themselves or causes damage or if you accidentally burn the place down. stuff...
Very nice photo -- Unfortunately, pictures/albums on the photo page don't show up for me either (Firefox 3 - Ubuntu)
My insurer in Vancouver never asked about roommates.
When I was in Ontario, everyone in the house/apt had to be insured, no exceptions and I had to provide proof before I could get it (which...
Good call. I'm signed up with a bunch of guys from school.
Another option is taking the Limited Express (Super Azusa, Azusa) from Shinjuku (Tokyo) to Hakuba. It takes about 4 hours and depending on the time of day you may have to change trains...

Another option is Canada West Mountain School. They offer AST-1, AST-2 and custom courses.
The first day of the AST-2 is in North Van (Mt. Seymour) though.
