IMO, mediocre repairs will come out eventually, esp if they weren't cleaned thoroughly and there's some dirt or wax still left in the original gauge. I'd pop it out, clean it well, score the sides...

eh... don't be so quick. I just added that 2.4 number and I'm not sure if that's right. But yeah, I'm guessing you got the latest orange versions whatever number that is (2.2 or 2.3 if it exists). ...
