STIFFFFFFF!!!!! -blaming the peanut gallery and stealin' their pair if I don't like it:biggrin:
In all honesty; stiff should be fine, it's not like they have metal in them
^^Nice! I quickly looked over the past few pages but didn't see it posted - what's your height/weight? Went with the same topsheet & graphics, but in a 187 and medium flex. Still debating medium or stiff in my head.
175-180lb 5'11
tough choice for sure, but I like a good amount of rebound out of my turn.
Get the stiff. if you dont like it you can always ski the ever-living shit out of them, huck a couple 50 footers, slam some icy moguls and I'm sure they'll loosen up to a medium flex:biggrin:
Regretting my Helix purchase as it's blown my ski budget this year... Wish these would have existed back in October/November.
I love my OG 189 pontoon's but they're heavy and the tips are way bigger than they need to be. Plus skinning/bootpacking them is a huge PITA. Seems like this would be the answer, esp. since I enjoyed my time on the CRJ but don't really ride switch & would love to get on a Praxis carbon build.
Have we figured out if these skis will live on to next year? Sound like they could be the answer to replace my 'toons for AK touring.
Otherwise - layaway plan?
It all depends on the interest.
Right now, marketing has pretty much just been TGR and facebook. That alone has gotten enough serious buyers that Keith deemed it worth doing as far as just this initial run. So I don't know.......if Keith figures there's enough interest outside of those realms, then yeah, he did mention making them available as a regular ski in the future. It's all going to be a matter of what the dozen or two people who get in on this run say to others in the lift line I guress :D
Woo are these going to be the ultimate wet sloppy heavy snow in the trees skis?
We do a fair bit of pre-work skiing up on Cypress in the trees. Short shot 50 minute skin straight up. It's well spaced old growth trees and decently steep.
With that pesky global warming it's frequently on the bubble barley freezing at the bottom. Cypress gets boat loads of snow...it's just usually wet heavy stuff.
Kinda on the fence as I've next to zero time on any ski similar to these.
hey kidwoo, speaking of wax, do the new praxis skis come waxed, or do i need to wax my new rx & wifes mtn. jib?
i don't feel much on these bases.
thanks kid
bobby
Mine came hot waxed, though with the bases being new they looked pretty dry and patchy after just two days on soft snow. New bases are usually pretty thirsty so it doesn't hurt to do a few wax-n-scrapes to get good penetration.
What he said^^
i ain't kidwoo, but for that specific application, i'd say 'yes'.... or going with the wider skis with that design like the protest or l138.
i've been using l138's for a few years for this exact "snow" type (i'm on the sierra west slope). sometimes by pants will be soaking on the outside from breaking trail (or descending) in fresh "snow" that's saturated and deep. the unhookiness of this type of ski has been very kind to me in saturated snow.
thanks kid thanks west,
im not a tard or slow, just haven't been able to grasp how awesome my praxis are till i can get 70~90 days on em.
got a two sided stone and plenty of good wax to keep our skis prime. lots of rockery on our peaks from wind and scrapage keep the new skis locked up.
peace fellas
bobby
Me too, but normal topsheet. I was hedging right up to the final click, but no buyer's remorse for me. According to the numbers from Keith that someone posted above, the difference between medium and stiff isn't going to be that much. I'd venture a guess that the difference between normal vs. lightweight would be almost imperceptible to anything other than a scale.
I'm in the same boat. I'd rather not have the extra stack height or expense, but doing inserts is time consuming, and as you mentioned, has a higher fuck up factor. And I'm lazy. Decisions, decisions...
^^ If you bring 'em down to Mukilteo, I'll help ya with the inserts (unless you know how to do them and are really just too lazy ). Not really that hard to do, but it is a little time consuming. IMO, it's the double mount that's harder to get right. I think I plan to use my handy-dandy plate adapter for FKS to Plum (toes, heels don't interfere at all). But I am a little worried about using a plastic DIY plate as a long-term solution.
my plan is to double insert for fks and dynafit. might just do dynafit first and see how that goes, then insert for fks later.
So was anybody AT ALL interested in those taxi graphics I put up a while ago?
Keith is doing a set for at least me and one other person.
Just curious........you're not going to hurt my feelings :D
I just wanted SOMETHING on them that said praxis pretty legibly. Pisteoff is right about no way to tell who's skis they are on so many of the the topsheeets.
Well I am quite lazy. Actually, that kind of stuff is right up my alley, but thanks for the offer.
I tend to over-analyze things. My thinking is, plates have the same benefit as inserts, but without the permanence. It's half as many holes that don't overlap with any binding (that I know of), and you can sell the plates or skis on gear swap to recoup some of your cost if it doesn't work out (not saying that it won't, but I also have a problem with hedging my bets).
The downsides are initial expense, and possibly stack height. (I've used sollyfits, but never dynadukes)
Homemade FKS/Plum plate, huh... very cool. Did you tap machine threads into the plastic, or use wood screws?
Yeah, I'd be 100% in favor the plates if I wanted to use Sally binders. Not a fan of the Duke in general. But I'm much happier with FKS and tech than anything else. Feel free to PM me if you decide to go inserts and want a hand (if you're worried about screwing up brand new skis).
Plan to post up about the plate in the appropriate thread (took 10% Groomed's idea and adapted it for FKS/Plum). Used an HDPE cutting board with tee-nuts and 10-32 machine screws.
well based on the pm's I've been getting, I might as well let the cat out of the bag for those of you who are paying attention. DynaLook plates are coming.
FKS,Axial,Axial2,AxialRacing,Dynafit. Should drop later this month. Prototypes have been mounted and work great!
damnit, now i have a decision to make, though i already bought the inserts.
Nice work mang!
The advantages of the plates are obviously easier mounting, less holes, and a wider mount pattern for both FKS (heels in particular) and Dynafit/Plum. The disadvantage is stack height - if you shim to the toe of the tech binder to null ramp angle, you're approaching that of a Duke. Guess I could put inserts in for both the back plate and the heels of the tech binder.
Feel free to jong me, but don't the Axial and Look Pivot share the same pattern, while the Axial 2 and Look PX share the same (but different from Axial/Pivot) pattern, both of which are slightly different than FKS? Does the plate have that many holes in it?!?
