    Hi Dr. Mark,
I wrote to you a couple of years ago about my knee injury. I had a three ligament total separation and then a allograft and repair surgery done in 2009. I just wanted to tell you that I am doing very well after 9 months of PT and a lot of work. I have returned to Tae kwon Do and can crouch like a catcher and then some! My goal is to sit comfortably on both legs folded under me and I almost there! Thanks for your answers to my questions and your help and support to everyone who has this injury!

    Hi Dr. Mark,
I wrote to you a while about my injury. I tore my ACl, MCL and PCL completely and had one surgery to replace my ACL and PCL and repair my MCL. I am happy to report that I have had no problems with knee stiffness. I have continued to work on flexion even after being released from PT and my surgeon. I am almost able to sit on my leg ( bended under me) and can comfortably squat with both legs. I am still working always on strength and for other reasons haven't gotten back to Tae Kwon Do as much as I want. I have a very slightly stiff knee, but not sore or weak.
    Thanks for your advice.

Hi Dr. Mark, I am finally out of 11 weeks of the cast & removeable boot for a calcaneous heel fracture. The break was like a "V" so the orthopedic surgery highly advised 2 big screws-internal infusion--on a size 4 foot 2 days after the accident. The screws extend beyond the foot and there remains a bone fragment at the end of the heel. The surgeon ruled against making an incision on the swollen foot. He told me the screws could come out later and then he could shave down the fragment if it bothers me. The issue: the entire foot swells walking on the foot for any extended time. This causes so much pain in movement: the ankle & entire foot, so much so that it inmobilizes me. I do not take pain medication. Against the surgeon's advice, I use an ace bandage dailyto prevent swelling. which is the only way I get painless mobility to build back my calf muscles & strengthen the ankle & foot and get the blood to return back to the heart from the veins in my foot. Agree?

    part 2
I have had conflicting opinions on treatment. Once orthopedist recommended ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair (if tear acute). Second opnion was for 2 months rehab, and follow up appointment. Second MD said he would consider repair for ACL with allograft if that is what I want. I dont want surgery, but would love to feel a stable knee after all these years and hopefully prevent future subluxations/meniscal tear. First orthopedist reason for needing surgery now is that secondary stabilizers of knee weaken and will repeat injury likely and that if I have surgery soon there is a higher likelyhood that if meniscal tear is recent it will have a higher probability of healing in setting of ACL repair. Second opinion orthopedist says that a couple months wont make difference should I still opt for ACL repair and probably wont change outcome for posterior horn lateral meniscal tear. I am 42 years old. What do you think? thank you.

Hi. I have a chronic ACL deficient knee. 20 yrs ago I had an ACL avulsion with repair and re-injury 6 months later. My knee has been ACL deficient for 20 years. Everything was as usual until 1 month ago when playing tennis and hitting a serve i felt something "snap" in the outside of my knee. No swelling/pain and kept on playing and then played for the next 3 weeks. Then about 1 week ago I was hitting a backhand, planted my right foot, shifted my weight, when I felt something stretch on the outside of my knee. I had an MRI which showed my chronic ACL tear, oblique/vertical posterior horn lateral meniscal tear (acute vs. chronic and probably in the white/white or grey/red zone), and mild arthritis. Please see part 2.

Hi doc. I'm 16 and fractured my femur 3 in a half weeks ago. I just started therapy and my knee isn't bending a lot only 65 degrees. I wanted to know if this normal and if it will start bending?

Hey, just looking for a little input/advice, I have heard from you before. See..[ame="http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194927"]ACLR Patellar Tendon vs. Hamstring Graft - Teton Gravity Research Forums[/ame]
Thanks for your time, my goal would be obviously to return to a pretty high level of skiing. I usually ski at Squaw 100 days a year.

    Hi Dr. Mark,
I wrote to you a while ago about my knee sugery ( mcl, acl, pcl reconstruction) and you were kind enough to respond. Thank you so much for your feedback and advice. From what I read on this site, you get a fair amount of crap from people which I feel is undeserved. I really appreciate your input and advice. I especially appreciated your statement that you and your family would pray for me. That is priceless and heartfelt help. Happy Birthday (belated) also!
I had an acl and pcl reconstruction ( with cadaver grafts) and mcl reconstruction in July. I am finally feeling somewhat "normal" again, and even have my surgeon's permission ( very reluctantly) to return to Tae kwon Do in the next week or so.
Thanks for being a medical professional who is willing to give input to complete ( not paying) strangers. You are a good-hearted person and I appreciate you.

  9. You need to get this information from the doctor who did the surgery. My rehab perscription is probably to extreme for this case and yours probably needs to be advanced more slowly.

Hello I was ready a thread on someone you commented on a long time ago about a knee cap dislocation that has bruised the bone, tore off cartilage from the knee cap, and tore the Medial Patellar Retinaculum Ligament. I had the same enjury and had surgery to repair the legament and clean out the joint also a lateral release. I am looking for anything you can help me with to understand this enjury and what I can do to prevent it in the future. What kind of work outs I need to do etc. Please contact me at serenity_aj@hotmail.com I would really appreshate it. Thank you for you time.
