Right on, Nick! I've never heard this stuff before and I'm diggin' it. Sounds a bit Dropkick/Flogging but a dash mellower.

Chuck Regan of Hot Water Music fame may qualify as Folk Punk, http://www.myspace.com/chuckragan. He is definitely punk as fuck, on tour, and snowboard who squatted in an unfinished condo at Kirkwood so he could ride pow for a week. Also, he is Tuffy109’s step-father.
X, are they a new band from LA? Joe Doe is a tele skier and tour frequently.

X is an LA band from the early 80s, more rockabilly or phychobilly than folk, but still a good band

so last week Defiance, Ohio released a new album called the fear, the fear, the fear.
it rules, they utilize some piano and a little bit of electric guitar.
it might be their best work, the song "the list" is great,
the whole thing should be available for free download in a day or two at their website http://defianceohio.terrorware.com/index.php

They (John Doe, Exene and DJ Bonebrake) have a newer band called The Knitters, (http://www.theknitters.net/?id=detail.php&catalog_id=6741) good stuff. The Knitters actually put out an album twenty-some years ago but they have another one now. Dave Alvin is on the new one.

More like a punk who does some solo folk (kinda like Graffin did), but still an amazing artist.
that gravel pirate voice sounds awesome as a folk singer. Would love to see him live.
no mention of the mekons?
