What's the best/cheapest ocean fishing setup? I don't want to lug anything heavy or expensive, just something that will get the shit done at the minimum price and fishing gear haulage.

I'm going to Indonesia and the surf resort blurb says....


Fishing: Fishing and trolling is included in the price. Guests are encouraged to bring their own fishing gear because the resort’s gear is often not in the right condition or lost after a group uses it.

Indo has dogtooth tuna and lots of BIG reef fish.
I really can't recommend much that wouldn't be heavy and/or expensive that could survive those kind of fish. Also traveling with gear is a bitch.

See if there's any shops that specialize in fishing charters that rent gear in the neighborhood of the resort. That'd be your best bet.

Yeah most likely not.
Malaysia had some good outfits that rented gear/some good charter outfits too. I'd suspect the same in Indo.
