This was the Mullets thread but I think it should be here in tech talk

The Blizzards are reativly new (less than 5 years old)

The Rossis are a clasic however....but a valid one for Mulletizer's question, this was at one point and may still be the most popular ski ever!

Blizzard

http://www.biglines.com/photos/blpic20804.jpg

Ptex base,Vertical laminate wood core, epoxy around the core, plastic cap, 2 layers of fiberglass between the base and the core, one not as wide as the other, fiberglass layer just under the cap.

Rossi

Ptex, Steel braid in fberglass sub base, two part epoxy core, plastic sidewalls and topsheet, aluminum top edges...

From memory an old Dynastar course (the gold ones with strawberries on the tips) had almost nothing in them, a u shaped piece of steel running through a completly epoxy core...the sidewalls were just the edges of the core, with the top being cosmetic only!...they had edges and ptex base of course but not much else!

I burned some rossi X ciums last year (top of the line XC ski) it was just Ptex base plastic side wall/ top sheet and honeycomb wood core with fiberglass on top (on thin sheet, the honey comb made it burn like a torch wich was pretty cool but it smelled bad, oh the next day it snowed that was also cool.:D

Here's the ski I did. It was a Dynastar altitude tour.

I was pretty drunk when I did it which is why the sawing is not too straight...

Thanks for all the pictures Tom.

For some reason, the thing that surprises me about all these skis
is the width of the sidewalls. The only guts of a board I had previously seen were snowboards - they had 1cm thick sidewalls.

Anyone know how thick the sidewalls on fat skis are - like the Seth Pistol or M103 for example?

Dunno, but a good many of the skis don't have any side wall just core material to the edge....will post some more tomorrow...more 1mm sidewall, and none existant.

I'm thinking that clear sidewalls that you can see the core through should look pretty funky on the skis I make.
