A few shots from last night, lots of noise had a lot of extra lights around that interfered a lot.

And yes I suck at spelling, I got up at 5:30, which is way to early to be doing anything but dawn patrol or hunting. It seems to have affected my ability to spell.

It will help - there's waaaay too much "nothing" in the top of the pictures. You can crop them in Post using the rule as well as well.

I agree, and the reason I didn't was that any more cropping and that image will get noisy as hell, also a lot of detail is lost at the size they are. But thanks for the tip!

Have you tried playing with the levels? That might help the colors to "pop" a little more, and might make the activity in the top of the photos more obvious.

Neat pics otherwise though. I've never taken lightning shots - I'll have to try it sometime.

I did, and I got them as good as possible without getting too much noise. I had a giant car lot just below the frame, which had 100 flood lamps illuminating it, it was casting a lot of light into the air and really jacking with the shots. It was a lot of fun, though in hindsight, standing on the roof to shoot lightning may not be the smartest thing to do.

Its probably not quite as dangerous as it seem. Can be scary, but I would guess its more likely going to hit a street light than you. Personally, I love going out to shoot storms. Most recent chance was a few weeks ago at 2 AM. Got some killer shots from it but, like you, at the time I was wondering if it was smart to be standing (in my case) on Green Mountain (has no trees) during a severe storm.
