View Full Version : Freerides on Explosives or G4's(decisions decisions)

Heres my dilema, I was going to get a pair of Trekers to use with my G4's so I got skins and trimmed them to fit the G4's. Then I saw Mntlions CMH Explosives and bought a pair of those with Salomon 900 demos so my friends/family could use them as well. After doing some research I decided screw the trekkers and I got a pair of Freerides and now I'm debating which ski to put them on. The G4 is my everyday board and the explosive was going to be my eastern side/backcountry rig. Are freerides bomber enough to hang on east coast hardpack/trees/bumps? Or would I be better off using the improperly trimed skins on the explosive with the freerides?

I've got the exact same setup as you (G4's and CMH's from mntlion). I'm using the G4 for my everyday ski with alpine binders and mounting freerides on the CMH. I think the G4 will be a better all mountain "in bounds' ski for all conditions. The trimmed skins should work alright witht eh CMH's. You won't have total coverage, but it will be good enough. Just my 2 cents.

I'm trying to get a freeride setup going as well. I had thought about poaching the binders off my G4s for my new skis, but my hangup is how the skins fit on the G4s. The plastic crap at the top of the G4 prevents the skin tip from getting on the ski. Anyone solve this problem?

I totally second that opinion.

I never had that problem with my G4's what kind of skins you using ? I actually found that the platic tip kept the skin nice and tight !

Yeah, mount the Freerides on the explosivs. They'll be the ski you'll be using when you need the Freerides. The binding is probably tough enough for the conditions, but I think you'd be happier having them on your explosives. And when you're hauling around Trekkers on Demo binders, you'll really regret not mounting the freerides on them. Think of how heavy that setup would be.

if you mount the freeride on the explosive i wouldn't be scare to go .5 to 1.5 cm foward in a 190. thats what i found could work from ridding that set-up. freerides are bomber but set you back and the ex has a stiff tail so thats it.
