I got an email with these pictures from a co-worker that just returned from Canada. Her Group didn't catch anything this big. Biggest Northern I caught was fat 43-44 inch fish in Canada. The tape measure sticker on the boat only went to 42 inches so I estimated the rest of the length. Anyway here is the information contained in the email sent to me:

BIG fish caught in Canada – thanks to bm

Look at these photos

If the weight holds up it would be a new world record pike. It weighs 56lbs. The old record 55lbs 1 0z and was caught in Germany.

Caught on a river in Canada 56lbs 56inches the pike it's eating is 36inches. It grabbed a 36" pike- look at the pictures- you'll be amazed!!

The 56lbs pike was never hooked, it would not let go of the 36inch pike.

Don't know if the information is real, but either way that's a big fish.

Would you get the record even though you never actually hooked the fish?

^^Either way, that shit is badass

It probably wasn't so much that the gigantapike wouldn't let go of the other pike, but that he couldn't let go. From time to time I catch pike in the 26" range with big scars on them, but 36" is pretty ridiculous.

If this is a new World Record, I'd bet a lot of people will dispute it. Are 36" Northerns legal baitfish in Canada?

ummm....wow

that is absolutely ridiculous. I catch a fair amount of pike every summer, never anything really over 30 or 32 inches. that thing looks like a fucking alligator though.

I gotta think that would not count as any sort of record....as that fish was not actually hooked. right?
