the 2nd beer after a killer ride? Nothing!
The first beer is too fast, you don’t savor it, only down it. The 2nd one means something; you taste it, you feel it go down, it means something. Muscle finally relax, sweat is drying fast, your helmet hair is falling down to a normal mess. You’ve thrown off the riding shoes, your feet smile. The bike is dirty but smugly stating that yeah, it kicked ass today. No more heavy, sweaty pack smothering your back. Gloves are dying in the back of the truck, ready to go in a few hours if need be. Twist, slight release of carbonation signals cold ecstasy is coming your way. Yeah, that feels Gggggoooooooddd.
Rode Hazard County by myself tonight, parked on the La Sal Mt. rd (where Hazard meets Kokopeli), humped the rode up to Werner Camp ground / Hazard County trail head, crawled to top of single track. One hour 45 minutes of pure non-stop climbing, 15 minutes of pure pleasure. Heavy thunder storm in Castle Valley, lighting coming my way quick, better move. Super tacky, not another person within 25 miles, perfect.
Wish I could have shared tonight (and last night at Thunder Mountain near Bryce Canyon); wished AG was pushing my rear tire through each twisting turn, wished WaterSnowDirt (Winter Sports Drink) was giggling behind us as she goes faster than she thought she ever could go (but we knew better..), wished the solid Utared riding crew was railing behind me, pushing me; wished the Cali guys were a mile ahead, pushing me to catch up. Wished any regular on SP who has not ridden these trails was with me, enjoying pure MTB bliss like I was. I shared a post ride beer with a random cow grazing high in the La Sal’s as I sat on my tailgate. The cow wasn’t as happy as I was, don’t know why.
Drove down Sand Flats Road at dusk, second after-ride beer in hand, sliding each turn knowing that I would not see another person until I entered Moab proper again, singing along with Queen (fat Bottomed Girls) at the top of my lungs, unashamed. FKNA. I like to ride my bike......

Great write/read... the above two things had me laughing out loud. I know how feet smile when you take off running shoes...
And Fat Bottomed Girls... well... I hope it was as loud as *I* play/sing it.
Thanks for the morning feel-good!!!

Nice stoke. Motivating me to go downstairs and fix my flat from the other day so I can ride this afternoon :)
If I can get the tire to hold tubeless, it's fate and I should ride.

Hellsyeah buddy!!! You should be a writer :)
Wish I were there as well. So being down there this time of year, what do you think about our idea to camp up at Werner and rally from the c.g. down to town early in the morning? Doable or death?
Oh and 1:45 to the top, that sounds hurty, especially with that steepass singletrack at the end...oof.
Looks like Mr. AG is getting all sentimental in his old age.
Thanks for the read man. I'm missing riding with all you kooks.

I hear ya Mitta AG. Nice stoke for sure. I might have to blow off work and my class work and take a quick ride. That made me hungry for some trail action, right now.
Got to love the Moab.

That started for me driving away from the Moab on the last spring trip.
Tire held, so I guess I'm going to try and ride.

Its doable, but sometimes teasing death. If its ridiculously hot when you hit Porc proper, you can ride down the climb(really fun) and coast down Sand Flats into town. Its like riding into a hairdryer. Done that more than a few times.

Yeah, camping up there would be sweet right now. Maybe I'm getting used to the heat and we have been having a good deal of rain lately (cooling things off a bit) but I think a ride down early would be great right now. Since I'm always alone during the week, I only do stuff that I can hit after work and always seems to include a good climb in the heat of the day. Better than going to the gym though....
By the way, I finally bought a decent camera, photos coming soon...(yes, hell is freezing over)

Sounds good, probably not gonna happen for me till next summer though. My next Utah weekend riding will be September. As for the heat - I hear you; I am insanely getting a bit more used to riding in 90 degree/90% humidity out here in Ohio, it's kind of scaring me. I can stand riding in it, it's just once you're done that it's really gross and every piece of clothing is just soaked through.
