Lightroom Slowing down system even when closed?

On my laptop running Windows XP Pro I've been noticing that even after closing out of lightroom the computer still seems really bogged down and will hang up even on little things. Anyone else have this issue? Does Lightroom continue some services in the background even after it's closed? Seems to be worse the longer my Lightroom session is. Lightroom sure seems to function quite a bit better on the Mac, even on this laptop with 2gbs RAM I have to shut down all other programs to get it to work without having it hang up frequently. Frustrating.

I have noticed that on a Mac as well. It seems to get better once I completely close out of it. No way I can surf the web and have it open in the background, though.

Lightroom is the epitome of a resource hogging program. However, its still much faster & much better than a lot of other options out there.
