Running outside email accounts through at&t servers

Anyone else notice that at&t is shutting off the ability to run outside email accounts through their servers? I backdoored one of their servers for the last two years, but that ended this last week when they did what appears to be a system-wide lockdown, totally hosing the addies I use to send and recieve mail.

Alot of companies are requiring you to send all your messages through their smtp servers. It does not mean that you have to quit using the address, but that you can continue to receive messages from any servers you want, but only can send the outgoing messages through what they call smart hosting- the outgoing mail servers are to be in your case the AT&T smtp outgoing message servers.

This is done to supposedly cut down on the amount of spam sent.
