Filter Dilemma--Help the Griz

Some of you probably have no clue what I'm talking about here, but for those who do, please enlighten me. I thank you.

I'm in the process of revamping my grad ND filter collection and in-so-doing am purchasing a new filter holder as well. I'll be purchasing Singh Ray Grads (and reverse grads) and am looking for some help on a holder. I shoot a 5D, and need a holder that will allow me to shoot to 17mm with no vignetting. It appears, according to Cokin, that the only holder that will allow that is their X-Pro holder, which holds 170x130 mm filters (huge). I can only imagine how expensive a filter of that size would run with Singh Ray and am wondering if I can get away with their Z-Pro holder. If the X-Pro and super large filters are the only way to go, then I can do it. I don't have a problem paying for quality, but if there's any other way to do it for a bit less, that would be preferred. Does anyone have any experience with filter holders at wide angles? Which work best? Any other filter insight/suggestions, etc. are more than welcome. Thanks for any help you can provide. Booyeah to you, and yo momma.

never used either holder, but i assume a rear drop-in is not an option with that lens?

sounds to me like youre stuck paying for x-ray
ive been meaning to switch to a filter setup like that but just cant justify that cost yet

also, what thickness are these filters?
wouldnt you get lots of edge distortion @ 17mm when its looking more "accross" the filter than through it?
or are the film\gelatin like?

Drop-in is not really an option--simply for usability and versatility. I'm constantly moving the filter for horizon lines, etc. As for distortion, when you pay that much for a filter, there sure as hell shouldn't be much, if any. (Hasn't really been a problem at all with even the cheaper filters I've been using).

In the past I have just cut the Cokin ones down to hold just one P series. That way I get no vignetting..... However I beleave singh-ray makes one out of metal that you can assemble any way you want....

I have a Cokin P "lowprofile" holder that fits only one filter from the factory. I didn't have any problems with my 12-24mm.

It is also for sale w/ cap, 77mm adapter and B60 adapter. Cheap.

You can also buy them from the mountain light gallery in bishop I believe.

I've heard this does work, but have no experience with it. My widest lens in an 18-50mm but I shoot with an XT so the P series doesn’t pose a problem.

attached are what I'm looking to part with and a closeup of the side (note the buttery high iso Nikon ). If you are unsure it'd work with your setup I'd be more than happy to ship it to you and let you try it out (let me know tonight and I can probably mail it tomorrow). It's just going to collect dust for me.

I don't mean to sabotage this thread/offer for grizzle , but I'm interested in the wide angle filter holder stuff if he's not.

if its a 77mm adapter, does this mean its larger or smaller (id assume larger)
cuz i'm lookin to fit it to a sigma 10-20 (which is 77)

Actually I was referring to the "official name" -- not you -- when I said "bitch." I had to google "intensity filter" and thus found out the Didymium name. What I didn't realize is it's what we refer to as a warming filter or simply "pink" in my biz.
