Went out to Ft. Tilden (L.I., NY) after work today. Gorgeous weather, last hour of outgoing tide and wind from the west. On the 8th or 9th cast with the lure about 15 feet from my feet I get the...bump...bu..zzzzzzzzzzz... pause, pause, bzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz Woo-hooo!!!
About 4 min later (pretty light tackle) i landed what I'm guessing is my first keeper of the year. Man!! did it take a lot of miles, a lot of shorts and a lot casts to finally get this guy.

Backing up to the "what I'm guessing is my first keeper" part. I didn't keep this guy, mainly because I didn't have a measuring device with me, but my guess was 29" or 30". He was about 2 and a half filet knives long (8" blade, 4" handle), and was about to get it in the skull before I thought better of it...just in case.
Anybody with a keener eye care to guess the length from the photo? (I'm 6')
