What are peeps suggestions on a super wide lens that wont break the bank? I want a Canon 10-22, but cant spend the $600 that they go for used... My 17-40 isnt cutting it on the 20D body (~27mm). I like the Canon 15mm, too, but that pup is >$600... Are there any options, or am I f***ed?

You're not fucked. The common, decent priced wide angle lenses for Canon are The Tokina 12-24 and the Sigma 10-20. I think there are a few others but those are the ones I know off the top of my head.

I have a Tokina 12-24 that I think I got for around $300 used and I'm enjoying it. It's my first wide angle lens but works great for me.

I have a Sigma 10-20 and love it. Not sure how it compares on the Canon mount though. I bet you could find them used for around $400.

I love my $500 Canon 15mm because it's the best glass I own.

I'll second the Tokina 12-24.

I almost bought it instead of the Nikkor 12-24 I have now. If money had been more of a concern, I would have. By all accounts it's an excellent lens.

Check out Tokina's AT-X 107 AF DX Fisheye to Super Wide Angle.
It is a 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom lens. I have not used this lens myself, but have read quite a bit about it online and it sounds like a very nice lens.

Thanks fellas. Id really like something equivalent to my 17mm mated with a 35mm SLR, so Im gonna stick it out and get a ~10mm.

the sigma 12-24 is a pretty hot lens as well

cheaper and heavier, not a better lens. very good lens, and probably good enough for most, but just want to make this clear, it is not better than the canon.

I've used both extensively.

Heard good things about the tokina 10-17

so i've been reading a couple of reviews about the sigma 12-24 and a lot of people are saying that they have had soft spots on a couple of lenses before they get a good one. I've been thinking of getting one of ebay but if this is the case maybe it's not such a good idea?

ebay is never a good idea when it comes to glass. you're much better off spending a little extra money buying from the used dept. of KEH or bhphoto. then you know you're getting glass that has been checked out and has a return policy.

Heads up on the Sigma glass, the wide angle lenses are hit or miss on quality. I have a 10-20mm and have read tons about people having to go through 2 or 3 before they get a good copy. That said, I love mine.
