A Bag is A Bag..

I have recently started to get back into photography and video after a decent hiatus.. Got a new camera, new glass, new tripod whole 9 yards.. But have yet to come up with a good solution for a camera bag.. I have been using my regular bag and just a padded case for my dslr and 1 lense.. Needless to say I've gotten sick and tired of all the zipping and unclicking..

Lowepro is releasing the Primus that caught my eye, but I don't know if there is a better solution already available..or if anyone has had an upclose and personal look at this new bag yet...

Just curious as to what everyone is using for their backcountry setup..

with just one other lens, I put the camera directly in the pack or in a Lowepro type case and the lens in a lens case and those loose in the pack. Otherwise some sort of camera block/cube thing.

many people rave about the Dakine Sequence or the Burton Zoom

If I'm lugging most of my lenses with me... I use a LowePro Omni Sport for the lenses and such. That goes into my backbag. The camera and walkaround lens are in a LowePro Zoom 2 (I think), which is fastened on my chest for easy access and fast use. Works while snowshoeing, and should work while skiing as well.

Oh, and if I have just a selected few lenses plus the camera w/ me, I'll stuff everything in the Omni Sport and use it either as a sling- or a a fannybag.

Love this bag for hauling a ton of gear like in my car or on a plane...not a great bag to use as a walk around / skiing etc. bag though.

I have one too...it's kinda fat. Good to protect your gear, but for its girth it doesn't really allow much other non-photo gear.

such is the lot with photo packs. Even a cube inside the pack takes up a ton of room. I use:

inside a pack, which is nice because it alone with the gear will meet the most stringent carry on requirements, unlike photo backpacks.


the f-stop bag looks interesting. curious to see how much they'll run come August.

I've flown with the Sequence at least a dozen times and never had an issue. Usually I'm flying with a carry-on suitcase + the sequence on Southwest and not once have I ever been questioned. I'd hold off for that f-stop...looks really nice.

I've never had problems within the US, but several overseas airlines have strictly enforced size and weight limits. Sometimes I've been able to escape by pleading I'm carrying camera gear, sometimes by trickery, sometimes not at all. That's been with my Kinesis Journeyman Pack, Mountainsmith Lumen, or my BD Revelation w/cube.
