Yesterday evening my 6 year old said he wanted to go fishing. I had a bass tournament Saturday and was cleaning out my boat Monday night and this came out as he watched. I said I have to work tomorrow. He said, "well daddy, you could leave work a few hours early and take me fishing". I stated thinking and figured he was right.

Today I left work at 2:30, hooked up the boat and picked up my son. It rained on and off but that was not that bad as I continued to put crickets on his hook. Later he said, "daddy you are not fishing....why". I said, " Dru, I am just watching and helping you". He then said, "yeah, we are just spending time together, I really like the time we spend together". That was when I almost choked up.

Take a kid fishing next time you get a chance....They are worth it.

Edit because he did catch 4 bream today.

Good story. Makes me want to agree with my Wife and start the "trying" to have kids process.

I think I'm gonna tell my Wife to put the goalie back in! I'm never going to be ready for that.

nice work.....fishing with your kids is great

I took my 7 y.o. son on a float trip Sat/Sun on the John Day River for smallmouth bass.....just him and I. We had a great time.

I also take him to a small stocked pond here in town. It's great to see him enjoy himself like this.

keep it up, pops. yer doin' good.

Bumping because my daughter caught her first fish on Sunday:

Spinner with a worm, but a wild Brown keeper for your first fish isn't bad at all! (So jealous)

sweet tipp. My 2.5 year old hauled in a 5 inch perch the other day. You'd have thought it was a trophy of a lifetime he was so pumped. Unfortunately no good pics to share though.
