Which one and when? 'Tis a good goal.

I registered this weekend for Louisville Kentucky Ironman August 26th, 2007. :the_finge

Daywalker, are any other mags Iron finishers? I know we have a bunch of 1/2s here... I figured Vinman might be... have you done one? I'm pretty amped. It's been actually hard sleeping because each night I go to bed and am so excited to wake up and train the next day. I'm sure I'll get over that over the next 10 months.

Tell me about it.

But. I am free this weekend if anyone wants to go.

I'd be up for the century too -- on-road or off. Its all good.

You know what we should do: next spring -- the EC Mag invasion of Fruita & CO.

First season racing regularly made it difficlut to take trips other then racing....but i really enjoyed it.

I really hate riding on the road for 6+ hours, but its necessary to get ready for the off road centuries, i figure the company would make nice...

It would be nice to see guys at the Wilderness 101 or the Shenandoah 100...Im planning on both this year

That's awesome. I thought about signing up for it (as my first) but I've decided to do a few more 1/2s next year, improve on them to a point of relative comfort, and then extend on the distance. I'm pretty sure '08 will be my first IM season, although there is an outside chance I'll do Chesapeakeman next year. What kind of training are you going to follow to do this one?

I don't remember anyone else talking about doing a full on here. I remember Vinmans 1/2 race report though. Maybe we need a Maggot Tri Team.

Is Chesapeakeman an iron distance? You should do it! I was considering starting an Ironman thread but decided to keep it sort of DL :) My training is pretty basic, 36 week program, so really I officially start the last week of December. Until then I am cutting weight and building base milage although mostly my concern is the bike. That's actually my biggest worry. To be honest, I don't have any specifics on my training yet as my coach doesn't get back from Kona (a well-deserved vacation, he got 4th in his age group!) until Friday.

As for a maggot tri team, I would be all for it. I wanted to snag a TGR bike jersey but they were all gone. :(

Why not Placid if you're in NYC?

My gf finished the 2003 LP Ironman, and we went and spectated this year. Pretty cool stuff. Who are you training with in NYC? We hung out with people from one NYC team who's name I forget.

You're an MBA student right? A little advanced prep for the CEO challenge perhaps?
Biggins, you're girlfriend is awesome!! I've heard LP is pretty tough. I would have registered for that however the dates didn't really work for me... Louisville is going to be perfect because it's at the end of August. Hopefully I'll be able to "reward" myself with a week in Argentina right after, then start either my new job or further school.... we'll see what happens.

As far as who I'm training with in NYC, no one yet other than my coach. My swim program has a pretty serious tri club, so I've got that on my list of things to check out. I really need to find someone else in NYC who's doing it for those long slog rides in the rain. If you know of anyone, that would be awesome.

Heh- as for the CEO challenge- I wish! I think to qualify your firm needs a gross revenue of $5 million... my measly consulting company has about 499k to go before I'd qualify!

XtrPickels
10-24-2006, 09:44 AM
two of the guys I work with at the running store are IM triathletes. They've both said that LP is pretty tough.
They both hae great things to say about Ironman Canada. Seems like a moderate difficulty and a beautiful course.

Particle- What do you think about your vagrant/ what are you using it for mostly? I'll have to admit its pretty sexy and that pic has me looking into them.

Daywalker
10-24-2006, 10:50 AM
I'll second the slowtwitch rec, it's a pretty good board. I've heard it gets a bit chaotic over the winter as people have more time on their hands (like ski/snowboard here in the summer).

Is Chesapeakeman an iron distance? You should do it!

Chesapeakeman is iron distance and is supposed to be a pretty well run race. Luckily, unlike the IMNA races, it doesn't fill up. I'll wait until a bit later to figure out if I'm doing it. My current thinking is that I want to be prepared to race an IM as opposed to just completing it. In no way does that mean I'll be in contention for anything, just that I'll be more competent. We'll see how that train of thought progresses over the next few months. I can start thinking about it a bit more after this weekend (Marine Corps Marathon).

Man, I still don't get the whole single speed thing...

I bought it so that i could become faster on the geared bike when race season comes around, two rides so far and it is really addicting. there was one climb today though that I tried shifting with my thumb but was disapointed not to find my Shifters.

I get it but dont get the rigid thing;).

Rigid equals Cheap. But I had some carbon bars and ergon grips lying around that I slapped on, and with Mr. Alta Girls Ghetto Stans Setup Im running about 27 PSI in the front it has really taken the edge off.

Its the spacers. I just swapped them around so the stem is lower. It did look disproportionate and I seemed really high up.

I am the proud owner of a new-old Titanium road bike I got off ebay yesternday. It cost considerably less than the custom Serotta I was dreaming of. I'll wait off and get that one when I discover the pot of gold @ the end of the rainbow some day.

Summarily, I am stoked to ride this thing all summer long!

It's an all-Ti frame (by Clark Kent in CO...no, not superman;) ). It has Dura Ace 7700 9 speed group, hand built wheels with DT double butted spokes and Mavic rims, carbon fiber time equipe fork.

felt nine pro (29er), went back to a hardtail and loving it - had a trek fuel project one and santa cruz superlight before that; broke driveside chainstay on each, reps said may have been because of the stiffness i ran the rear shock plus the amount of saddle height i had may have caused some extra stress.
switched out shimano drivetrain for sram with gripshift; also switched out avid hydraulics for avid mechanical bb7's......pic so new from the shop that reflectors were still on the bike.

Speedplay X2 pedals

Nothin fancy, but it's held up through a couple nasty crashes and is decently comfortable through the long rides...

Nuthin real fancy but it gets the job done reliably every time. Ya know the feeling you get when the bike just fits right, like you're home, like you can do whatever you need to and the equipment will just be there. That's the deal with me and this bike.

So today I had the chance to christen my new dually with some great people. Altagirl, Mr. Altagirl and I started off the day with Crank it up to Heart of Darkness at the Whistler Bike Park. We joined up with Watanabee and then GoNads later in the day. It was a pretty amazing day and I was just super happy cause after riding 13 duallies, I knew what bike to pull the trigger on. My new baby is the Specialized SX Trail 2. They also lightened it up so it's not a pig.

I loved riding it and just had a perma-smile all day.

My Bianchi in Cyclocross mode(17.1 lbs!).

I want to get the new XTR cranks or Race Face Next Cranks (http://www.raceface.com/next-survey/) for it. How sweet would that be?

Build:

Thompson Masterpiece Post and 4x Stem

Me too....

I suck and compete in the SS categories, where half the guys are riding MTBs anyway.

I actually really like those rotors. They were really cheap when i picked them up, 50 for both. I have not noticed any difference from steel rotors. Besides, doesn't aluminum cool much faster than steel?

nice Dillinger Andy...i've been tempted by those frames for awhile. They still have their promo price of $245 so it's really hard to pass up at the price to get into the 29'er SS game for cheap.

Aluminum frame though right? And with EBB?

EDIT: Ooops...just realized that is a Hooligan and not a Dillinger.

posting pics always reminds me of all the parts i've changed since the pic was taken. all are size L btw.

the uzzi now has a solo air totem, straitline gold levers, sunline lo rise bars, and the fsa gravity lite stem, and dhf / mich tires quiver. for non-lift-served, the rocco air TST piggyback and a hope/DT 5.1front wheel goes on and the weight goes down to sub-37 lbs. http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=41970&stc=1&d=1210436123

other than lowering the bars and an easton havoc AM front wheel, and going to 7 inch front rotor, the covert build is pretty much the same:
http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=41971&stc=1&d=1210436123 That salsa delgado rim was a piece of crap. the pinned joint failed eventually. and most tires didn't seat right on it anyway.

the 26er zion single speed no longer sports the chris king / mavic front wheel (it's on the GF's bike now) and has different tires. i'm thinking of getting 6 bolt cog for the rear, putting on a crossmark on the front, and running it fixie. :D

Not many XC bikes on here, but heres my Jamis. Love it, it climbs UNBelievably well, and keeps up on the down but next bike will definitely be a AM 29er.

Here is my new ride for this season. Its the first frame I have welded, and I wanted to build something unique. So a single speed 69'r was born. It rides awesome and I'm stoked with the final result.

Pics of the might as well be new DH bike... it's technically an old bike but with new paint/pivot axle/etc. (the Ventana rebuild), new fork, bars, grips, brakes, stem, bashguard, pedals, derailleur, chain, cassette, wheels (reused the rear hub)...

Krash, nice bike you made there. Like the under-top-tube cable routing. what tubing did you use?

altagirl, sweet rebuild. i know how one thing leads to another and suddenly you're buying way more new parts. think of the cash you saved keeping that rear hub.

Damn, that is a good looker. The dropouts on that are stupid cool. Well done putting that together. I am not sure I would have enough trust in myself to ride a bike that I welded.

On second thought, I am sure. There is no way in hell I would ride a bike that I welded :D.

My only bike these days. 18" Dirt Works rigid SS w/ Surly fork. 32 x 18t. Built with whatever I had laying around the garage at the time. Zipp hubs, Old school TI Ringle twister QRs, TI S Wworks stem... 17 pounds even with heavy ass cranks, wire tires & steel bb.

Note the ridiculously obscure WCW hoodoo band.

Nice! Love the light blue with the Lyrik! Interesting tire setup there. Looks like a Nevegal in front and an Advantage in the rear. How you likin that setup?

The Nevegal is old and I needed rear tire in a rush and wanted to give the Advantage a try.

The Advantage is a very square profile, something I am not used to and I can't really dial in the break away point. I got another new Nevegal last night and will pick up another next week and be back to my 2.5 Kevlar Nevegals.

The whole bike is a hodge podge of parts from my parts bin.

Don't think I've ever posted a photo of my whip, Sparkles. She was just fresh from a bath so I figured it was fine time for a beauty shot.

After some upgrades last year. It's got a new rear wheel since then and the DHX will hopefully be festooned with PUSH stickers before too long.
