Any suggestions? It can be on pretty much anything. Needs to be about 10 pages. I must make use of scientific journals, so it can't be some obscure topic nobody has ever researched. I've gotten some good ideas for paper from here before, so I thought I would give it another go. Thanks in advance.

Tell 'em you need an all expenses paid trip to research the residual effects of the Exxon Valdez spill on the Alaskan marine ecosystem.

Nah......you don't want to do that. (says the person who spent 5 years working on the defense of that case ;) )

I wrote mine on Odobenus rosmarus divergens. Fascinating animals.

Effects of sawmills and organic debris in estuaries on salmon (Silvers in particular).

Effects of stream borne silt on salmon and steelhead eggs.

Heavy metal content of large ocean fish (you'll never east tuna again).

Carcinogens in bottom dwelling fish in the Puget Sound.

Demise of Atlantic Salmon stocks in Norway.

Truth - someone in my office accidentally sent that picture to a very conservative female atty who is also in our office. Not only was she squeaky conservative but she was the head of our anit-sexual harassment group. Needless to say she was not amused and he was brought up before the "HR Authorities."

Some ppl have no sense of humor

Fuck em' if they can't take a joke...but I'll edit the post for you my love.

Besides, it's a whale shark, not a blue whale and everyone knows whale sharks have cloaka, not massive walrusessque penis.

Although fat in the waist, walruses are lousy in the pow.

Who was it who first posted the 'Linkin Park as real metal' thread? That was a true stroke of genius.

Deep sea fishes have evolved such that conserved cellular signaling processes (e.g., G-protein coupled receptor mediated pathways)are, in some cases, regulated by hydrostatic pressure. This is cool in that it has allow some fish to survive in deeper water (along with the comcomitant development to resistance to cold, etc.) where they can access new food sources and escape predators. It serves as another example of the myriad ways that this class of receptors can be modulated. As a paper it would mix elements of ecology, evolution, and cell/molecular biology. Plenty of recent papers on the topic, too. Have fun!

And their genetic material is used to make strawberries more resistant to the cold. You've got to love science.

And women with huge norks.

Actually, no. It's genetically modified bacterial that are sprayed onto the strawbwerries that confers cold-resistance.

Concur with your "huge norks" assessment.

if you need any info whale-related (esp. killer whales, the most charismatic of the charismatic megafauna), feel free to ask! Or just check out www.whaleresearch.com or www.orcahome.de for basic background info. There is a shit-ton of lit. available on these guys from all over the world, although currently the Southern Residents (the ones I work with) are bigtime hot topic in my small PNW world.

Do you have access to Marine Mammal Science at your library? How about the Canadian Journal of Zoology?

A really broad topic, but can make it through ten pages
Critisism of the Maximum Sustainable Yield model and evidence for movement towards the Ecologically Sustainable Yield model for fisheries managment.
