hah, seriously
im scared of some of those big saltwater hooks that whip around right by your head, especially when casting in a crosswind
ive never really found barbs to be that helpful anyway
I cant say Ive lost any fish because of it.
Exceptions of course are fish that jump and shake like crazy, ie billfish or tarpon. If I intend to land either fish, Ill go for them with a half pinched barb, otherwise, Ill just flatten in completely and just enjoy the initial hookset, run, and however many jumps they stay on for. I dont always feel like fighting a fish for 30-60mins.

barb or no barb big fish will throw hooks.
I've got a few big streamers tied on circle hooks which I'm eager to throw to see how they compete.
Lot harder to hook yourself with a circle hook. :D

She's hawt! I can see a use for that in certain "positions".
it may only be on a 6 wt but it's not too uncommon for me to be chucking size 2 weighted streamers. all i can say is that large wide brimmed hats arent just for sun protection.

Wear. Sunglasses.
Line speed is your friend.
Plus it helps to really bury the barb.

Was wondering when you would show around these parts.
How's the fishin' down that way? Cold fronts should be about done up here. Gotta get out a ton this summer. Baby comes in August.

Ooooooof.
This does work:
He took a reel with line on it & looped the line & put the loop around the bend of the hook. He then pushed down on the eye of the hook & gave the line a quick jerk. That hook just flew out of my finger with no more damage than what had already been inflicted.
Even with big stainless chunk hooks.
No, don't ask how I know.

I have been an irritable gimp since I tore my ACL in March.
No knee stability means no casting or poling platforms until recently.
To make up for it I made three trips in the last ten days. I'll post pics later.
Heh, On sunday we were throwing flies to Tarpon with 12 weights.

The Gap trick is the only way to go, I've done it eleven times over the years ( to others)
To anyone that believes the boy scout manual about pushing the hook back through your skin......TOTAL B.S. I watched a guy attempt that for 15 minutes once. Your skin is just too tough. It was interesting watching his skin form a point from the inside as he tried to push the hook through.
( in a glad thats not me kinda way)

Unless you're using say fresh VMCs there's no way on god's green earth you're gonna push the point through without inflicting stupid amounts of pain.
Snatch method all the way, and don't alert the person you're doing it to as to when you're gonna do it and it'll be all good. :D
