What a sweet mountain. 3200 feet of skinning got us to the top in 3 1/2 hours. Gimpy sums it up pretty well - I just wanted to add some pics. There's video too, including a nice wipeout on a steep face. I guess we'll be seeing that sometime this week...

we had a great day on tallac today. telenater, arty50, shera, geoff, buddy the dog and myself got rolling by 8 and were stripping layers at 8:05. another scorching bluebird day was in store for us and evreybodys smiles were as bright as the sun. we found some good porn snow in north bowl and then headed over to the right arm of the cross to have a looksee. rollerball debris off the south slopes but otherwise not too bad and only a couple tracks to be seen. deep to not to deep slushcorn w/ the northish aspects holding the most managable snow. ski cutting on the steeps unleashed some heavy sluff debris and the snow was a bit grabby at times as we all found out much to the amusement of the others. the steeper slopes in the lower part of the cross and the rest of the way down also held some fun slushcorn that was surfed w/ smiles. back at the cars we kicked back w/ a beer and some local produce and then went off to the beacon for a rumrunner and some grub. great day w/ some great folks.

The crew gearing up. Left to right is Gimpy, Buddy the dog, Arty50, Geoff, and Telenator:

We weren't the only ones that had lunch at the top:

The view of the lake from up there is really mindblowing - wish I had done better with a pan, but here's what I got:

And you also get your whistle wetted for nearby tours:

After a few hundred feet of sweet open bowl corn, we scoped out a breathtaking steep line:

And it was a go (geoff's run shown):

Lots of other goodies to ski on the way down, like this rollover:

Sitting on a warm deck on the lake with drinks and new friends afterwards was a good time. The whole day was a sweet intro to the Tahoe backcountry. Looking forward to more...

Yeah, that was a memorable day. lots of fun was had. We all travelled well together, especially for a bunch of strangers.

I'm glad that you managed to photograph the one turn I had all day that didn't end in me sliding along on my ass (or ear)

And you also get your whistle wetted for nearby tours:

Here (http://www.tahoebackcountry.net/features/tallac02/images/tallacsummitpano.jpg) is a great panoramic photo of the mountains surrounding tallac, with all of the nieghboring peaks labeled. lots of lots of good lines here. you can even see kirkwood and squaw in the picture.

thanks to tahoebackcountry.net for the picture

We weren't the only ones that had lunch at the top

I'm compelled to defend my reputation.

Only SheRa had Lunch at the top and it was suppose to be "our little secret". :p

Yup, we dropped into the Cross. Nice.

I made my own skin track a good part of the way up. Builds character and I don't have to look at a track in front of me. :D

Builds character? Hell, try legs of steel. Your skin track practically went straight up.

That trip was a blast. Many thanks to gimpy, Nater, Geoff, and SheRa for hauling me up there for the first time. Tallac is unreal!
