Is this where all the smart guys hang out?

I got my sweet new camera and I hope you can help me get up to speed. This is my first DSLR.

So the lens has what looks like water spots on it after I took it out yesterday while it was snowing. How do I get those off without a lens cloth?

I tried pushing the button halfway for autofocus, but I guess it just didn't happen. What did I do wrong? Here's an image:

Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing this is a used camera and lens since the Rebel XTi has been available for a few months. If you bought this at a store, go back and have them check it. If you're doing something wrong, they should be able to show you what's up.

Use a lens cloth or lens tissue (Kimwipes) with a little dap of lens cleaning fluid (tissue and cleaning fluid are cheap) and gently wipe. You may also breath on the lens and then wipe. Honestly, in your situation, those little spots won't affect picture quality for you. One way to help keep rain/snow off is to get a lens hood- the rubber ones are usually cheap.

Where's Summit? He's your local neighborhood expert.

like I said Mir, it really looks like your lens is stuck in MF mode (manual focus) ... you need to switch it to AF mode, there's a slider-switch on the lens itself.

When I was messin with it, the lens seemed to be focusing fine in MF mode, so I don't think the lens is damaged.
