Man, did I have a difficult weekend...! (whine thread)

Shit.

4 AM Saturday morning, I was awakened to a crash, which was my 13-1/2 yr.-old Australian Shepherd, Baker, having a massive stroke. Cried my eyes out until 8AM, had the girls say goodbye to him, and took him to have him put down -

then the vet says that he might recover in a week although he can't walk, shit, pee, or anything. I am trying to use a turkey baster (sp) to give him water - now, all he can do is roll in circles - so sad (I will put up a sweet tribute thread to him should he not make the week). Hopefully he makes it a bit longer, but he's winding down.

Our baby has been sick all week with fever and doesn't sleep for shit.

Trying to start a new business and am getting luke-warm help from two of the critical people that I need support from...

Wife gets mad at me this morning - completely flips out, reminding me of last winters travails.

We went on the river with her mom, dad, sister, two brother-in-laws, and 5 kids today (wakeboarding was solid = bright spot), then after dropping off most of the crew, I hit a sand bar at 40 mph and ripped the drive shaft completely out of the bottom of the boat, sheered off the rudder and practically sank. Fortunately some dude in a big cruiser saved my ass and towed me back to a marina right as the ship started to go under.

Digi camera ruined, and now my wife is questioning the safety of being a river rat...again, and is pissed, oh and she has a migraine and 102 fever.

I just stepped in dog shit trying to get my dog to go outside and pee.

Well, after a stressful, costly weekend, all I can say is that my girls rock and my 4-yr. old was an absolute angel today - she just makes everything else seem insignificant, which it is, if a bit frustrating. At least no one got hurt - hopefully baker's condition improves.

You're not in it alone. Friday night was my brother's engagement party. It was held the Grand Victoria Riverboat Casino (my bro is mad craps fiend). After watching the Cubs win we head to the casino where I go on to lose $400.00 on the craps table after being up $1200.00. On the drive home I start feeling horrible and by the time I'm in my casa I'm doubled over. Spent the night praying to to porcelin god and woke up with a wicked fever that finally broke about an hour ago.

On the good side, the Bears finally won a game and the Cubs are looking solid (finges, toes and testes crossed).

Call me if ya need to vent.

I had two Aussies, they were brothers. Three years ago I lost one at 12 and the next year I lost the other one at 13.

Karl, that's quite a weekend, buddy. I read your travails to my wife, and even though she doesn't know anyone on the board (except justjusty and ColdSmoke) it made her really feel bad for you.
But, it's like I told her--other than your poor dog, you'll be able to look back on this post someday and laugh about how improbably bad it all was. At least that's my hope for you.

Just remember the outcome of these dark moments is completely within your control to influence by virtue of your reaction. Just for this next few days or week, a little stoicism might reduce the potential for additional disastrous events that sometimes seem to snowball. It's all about your reaction. Holy shit. Puts little internet problems in perspective. Crossing my fingers for Baker - I've lost a few dogs and it really sucks. As for the rest, hopefully you are just getting the shit kicked out of you all at once rather that over the long term.

As someone who recently had to put down a beloved dog I can understand the pain involved in watching your dog suffer. Now everytime I look at at our other Chessapeake I am constantly reminded of the good times I had with Aspen. The memories definitely make the pain easier to handle. Hopefully she will get better.

Well, If it makes you feel like you're not alone:

Just found out my Dad's is some pretty rough shape. He's got diabetes & he's the kind of guy who won't tell you he's in pain until he drops. Yeah, well it's happening. He basically lost all feeling in his legs and feet about 2 years ago. All he can feel is PAIN every couple days. Come to find out, he's been falling down the last week or so & when my Mom took him to the Dr. on Friday, they told him he was also having the beginning stages of kidney failure...

My 7 wk. old kitten did SOMETHING - no idea what...Fell off a bed, knocked something over that fell on him....No idea.
Kitten couldn't keep his head up, was rolling all over the place. Took him to the Vet & was informed that he'd suffered some kind of head trauma resulting in brain damage. He had to be put down.

Took my 2 1/2 yr old son out golfing yesterday & going around a corner, he fell outta the f'n cart. Damn near drove over his leg, fortunately, the high speed tumble threw him away from the cart leaving him scared, crying & muddy - but otherwise OK. When he finished crying, he scolded me & told me to go slow. Glad I can chuckle about it now, cuz it coulda been ugly.

That's lucky. There was a little girl that was killed over the weekend here in a go kart when another driver lost control and rode over her. She wasn't wearing a helmet. I just mention this because when I was a kid I thought go karts were just golf carts designed like a sports car.

that river has tore up many boats this way. so it take it you lost the lower unit? i've been there. hit a log on the river in a friends boat and took the lower unit completely off. only thing holding it on was the braided metal oil lines. bilge starts pumping right away - yeah, scart shit mang :eek: hey, that's what insurance is for.

It's been said before, but this is a truly exceptional family we have here in internet-land. I don't care if others don't understand our friendship and bond.

Thanks to everyone from the bottom of my heart - it is humbling to see the genuine concern and support from everyone. I will update later, but wanted to express my gratitude.

Bottom line: all that matters is getting my wife and dog healthy - Mrs. Stall is majorly sick and might need to go to the hospital in about ten minutes. Baker, well, we'll give it a fewmore days but he definitely has no quality of life right now. Can't believe how many of you know about the Aussie mystique - they are like people trapped in dogs, and Baker has been there for me since college - he's the best.

O.K. - just got the call - off to the e-room with the mrs. - Thank you again all - you're the best!
