i'd like to get a bike that is more capable on keystone in the summer than my 4" Trance2 which is better suited to XC... but I don't have $4000 to throw at the problem... i figure i should start looking early. know of any places/bikes i should be looking for to keep it around $1000? (used)

BS720 (i think thats his alias), has a Rocky Mountain Switch for 1100 he was trying to sell. My buddy was interested in it and I checked it out for him, but he changed his mind and wanted more of an XC\AM ride than a FR.

I can give you his email if ya want since Im not sure thats his alias. pm me and it will be so.

Konas tend to be sold relatively cheaply (and are a solid bike for the money)

For a $1000? Right.

Search ridemonkey.com and you may find something. If you can manage $1800 or so you'll get something decent. Going cheap on a DH bike means you'll be replacing things pretty quickly.

Second that. Check the pinkbike.com and MTBR.com classifieds also. I got a killer deal on a Demo8 on MTBR.

$1000 might be a bit low for something that is a true-blue DH bike, but $500 more could get you there.

Where were you 3 weeks ago?!
I sold my Stinky Supreme for $1500.

Anyhow, I'd bump the budget to $1500 to make sure you don't get a totally old, clapped out piece of shit.

How tall are you? Med or large bike? I'll keep my ears open. My buddy might be selling a pimped V10 for around 2gs.

Summit, I have a '04 GT DHi that I'm thinking of getting rid of... I bought it last year and rode it about 10 times max. It needs either new stancions or a new front fork (as the stanctions are scratched and I'm pretty sure the seals blew the last day), everything else just needs routine maintenance. I'd let it go for 850... 900 with new rubber.

YEAH SUMMIT!

older but minty (critical...) gt dh.i's, stinky's, stab's, giant ac1's, and alot of the norco stuff can be had for pretty cheap.

as flowtron said though, a beat bike is going to cost more longterm (or really rather quickly...) than a better condition bike

2004 Kona Stinky Dee-Lux (7", not 6" like the reg. stinky) - $1100

Hey everyone, up for sale is a 2004 Kona stinky dee-lux. This bike is 7" of travel, unlike the regular stinky which only has 6". I bought the bike from a bike shop mechanic and the bike frequently visits the shop. Its a great bike, but i am a really poor college student, so its time to sell. A couple of months from now is Keystone and Winter Park, and this bike will tear up both. I can give the full info upon request as well as more pics, or just come by to test ride it! Here are the specs: 04 Marzocchi 66RC, 04 Vanilla RC w/ piggyback, Hayes Mag brakes (8" front, 6" rear), singletrack wheels, etc.

Hey Summit, if you find a frame I will build it up for you. I live over in Scummit Cove. I'm in the middle of building up a budget 7" freeride bike, and it will more than likely be around $1200 including a new Dirtbag frame. Speaking of which, check out Transitionbikes.com and see if a small would fit you. Marshal can get parts pretty cheap since he works in a used bike shop in Boulder.

nope can't bring myself to selling the whole bikequiver for a highspeed gofast projectile bike.

another charge to the credit line would definately result in some harsh consequnces from the lil lady

Aaron...this is a SICK deal on a sweet frame...I got the same one last year. Granted, it's generally my trail bike, but it's plenty of bike for most stuff at the 'stone and is still pedalable in many instances. Great do-it-all rig.

The deal John found on the Stinky D is great too.

You need a bigger bike so you can hang this summer!

Man, this thread has some sweet deals. I'd vote for the Dirtbag build-up, but then, I have a soft spot for Transition bikes.

After playing a bit with Marsha's and hearing about Rontele's, I'm convinced they are the shizzle.

Seconded. I have an 02 Stab I bought used last year for 750 that's been pure 7 inches of butter. Perfect for hucking craters on Melmac. Kona's seem to hold up well too and should last a long time provided it hasn't been abused
