View Full Version : Booster Strap Mounting
I just got some Boosters for my new boots.
I know there was an old thread on the now-deleted Powmag Tech Talk Forum about people mouting their boosters to their boots, but I can't read that now, can I?
- How'd you do it (tools & techniques), and how long did it take?
- Did you mount the strap to the outside of the spoiler to wrap both the spoiler and liner in tandem, or didja mount it to inside of the spoiler so that it would wrap only the liner?

I use Boosters on Scarpa boots which have grooves in the back of the spoiler, so that the strap and the shell are linked pretty tight.
If I had to rivet them, I'd
heat a nail and melt a clean hole in the webbing,
drill a hole in the shell,
attach the strap to the outside of the spoiler with a rivet or with a small machine bolt with washers or crazy glue or whatever the fuk, because it only needs to keep it from slipping when you're not wearing it
Or get Dremel out two vertical grooves 2 inches apart on the back of the spoiler, Scarpa style, and you can save poking holes in your Boosters, avoid the harware factor and be able to swap them out on other boots.

I rivited mine to my Solly's used the same hardware that held the old stock strap

I love slots! Yummm. Uh, anyway...
I'm thinkin' I'm gonna take out the stock straps and put the Boosters in the grooves that are already there. I like the idea of creating slots in the spoiler so I can re-use the Boosters after the boots are shot.
By the way, how'd y'all get the rivets out?
I guess you could use the stock straps as ski straps instead of paying $6.
Danks for the info.

get a metal bit about the size of the hole in the rivet and drill it out.
i'd suggest definitely having the straps run on the outside of your spoiler. if you were to mount it on the inside of the spoiler (between spoiler and liner) with a few screws or whatever, you could run the risk of creating some stress concentrations on the strap and ripping it out.

Defintly rivit the straps into the same holes that he factory staps used. the best way to do this is to drill out the old factory rivits, and replacing them with mechanicle rivits that screw together with a alen wrench. That way you can remove the booster strap later and put it on a new boot, but remeber to singe the strap once you put holes in it. BTW mounting them this way makes the straps twice as effective, I have ran this set up for three years and love it. I jsut did it on Baker Boys boots, and he is stoked on it too.

I just bought straps for my X-wave 8's, can you get the rivets at any local hardware store?

I guess you can. You can also get special ski boot nuts that fit those Salomon holes without protruding too much into the liner. I am about to use some to put Boosters on my X-W 10s using allen bolts. Seems a whole lot easier than riveting and also means they will be easier to play around with afterrwards. Your bootfitter should have some of the nuts and bolts.

My Nordica K9.1s had a pair of allen bolts that held the stock straps to the shell. Using the heated nail method, I made a pair of holes in my booster straps, than bolted them onto my boots much like the factory straps were mounted.

replace the stock power straps with your booster straps. mount them outside the spoiler but when you tighten them they should be inside the shell. you want the strap to be fit as snuggly and as closely to your leg as possible. notice pic below:

Im going to have to drill out the rivit on the solys, allen bolts would have been nice.

I've never noticed any performance difference between having the strap inside or outside my top buckle's plastic. Your mileage may vary (and you'd still install it in the same spot anyways.)

Ray Fougere (inventor of BOOSTER strap) demonstrated to me and a couple other racers that the correct way of utilizing BOOSTER is inside shell. Dont ask me why or how much difference it makes but he said that's the way he designed it and full potential is reached when fit like so....

Haven't tried mine out yet, but i would thing that you would get a little more flex out of the strap then if it was over the plastic, instead of just pure stiffness.
