View Full Version : Another Gotama Length Question
I know this has been beaten to death, but a situation has arisen where I could possibly get some 190 Gotamas on the cheap. I had ordered a pair of 183s, but some problems with the credit card company thinking an overseas charge was fraudulent led to the order being cancelled. So my question is will I be man handled by 190s or will I be able to manage them, especially in the trees?
I'm:

Ski primarily A-Basin, but would like to start venturing into the BC after I have taken avy classes and learned a lot more.

I think you will be fine. They ski short, probably more like a 185. FKN awesome ski.

You'll be fine on the 190. The longer length will just give you more float in the deep stuff.

just wondering ... do they ski shorter because they ARE shorter? By chance I saw a pair of 176 cm gotamas next to 170 cm salomon screams the other day, and they were the same length!
I hope so. I ordered my wife some 183s and she's currently on 168 Elans.

Big twin=less actual running length
Thanks everyone for the replies. As it turns out, I'm apparently still getting a pair of 183s because they sold out of the 190s.

nothing, they keep together nicely ... no delam action so far, already had a few days on icy, rocky, nosnow europe slopes.
the tailspacers seem to be quite long and at the point Ive cut them there is no woodcore.

What are the chopped skis behind the goats? What are you doing with them? Is it a foldable skinning ski by chance???
Also, do you drive a convertible? I'm guessing if you don't you will be soon. ;)

hard to say, I weigh 5 pounds more but am 4 inches shorter than you. The 183 is plenty of ski for me, I think the 190 would be too much. But I am a gaping vagina filled with sand, so YMMV.

That should be an interesting experience. What model Elan?

Im 6-2 and 210 and ski the 183s, defintely too short but they are great in the woods and decent in bumps. If youre going to do a lot of tight tree skiing, youll be fine in the 183 but if youre going to use it for backcountry or rip any groomers, you might want to go longer. But for strictly in the woods, the 183 is fine for me.
