i am driving out to JH in a couple weeks, and i am wondering what roads are closed in yellowstone. using mapquest it sneds me through the east entrance around the lake and out the south entrance. i have been told that those roads are closed during the winter, same with beartooth. thanks for any input.

Everything except the road from Gardiner to Cooke City is closed. (N. entrance to the NE entrance.)

Well, if you travel by snowmobile, technically....

The roads around Island Park are always sketch during the winter. Gotta watch out for the 'biler spinning out his F-250 loaded up with a half dozen sleds.

Uh, dude, if you read what Char wrote ya, you can't drive thru Yellowstone in the winter, unless you are on a snowmobile or snowcoach with a guide. Can't, until mid-April or so. You kinda have 3 choices. You can go east, thru Cody, about a 12-18 beer drive. A longass way. Or straight west to Idaho Falls, and catch the well plowed highway north thru Island Park, West Yellowstone, etc, about a 6 pack. Or directly over Teton Pass to Victor/Driggs, over the hill and thru the spud fields to Ashton, then West Y, etc. About 4 beer drive if it's morning, maybe a sixer if it's after a good day of skiing. Safe travels, cuz all the roads between the two can get pretty snarly---

Yea Tye pretty much summed it up, it can be a snarly drive but if you take it easy in 4w, you won't have a problem. If you aren't coming to MT for anything else, I would stay in JH. The snow is weak sauce up here right now
