Calling the dates of the mini. Why this particular weekend, you ask? Because, as in years past, we (me) wait to see which is the first weekend to offer the discounted lift tickets. If you haven't joined us for the Mammoth mini before, do it now, become part of the legend. Bring your lunch.
Book it.

Minor hijack: My in-laws have a tres schwank 4br/3.5ba (1 king, 2 queens, bunk room for 4) condo at the Snowcreek that they rent out. If anyone's interested, let me know, because the direct-rent rate is something like half what you pay to rent through central reservations.

Done...perfect dates, they are on the calandar now.:yourock:
I will be there with my usual antics--my always smiling goofy-ass ugly mug, awful puns, bad breath and gas, photo skills (eventhough I suck), my great pup, cooler iced full of blue margies and SD micros, tri-tip steaks, and tours for anyone who disrepects their equipment enough to follow me. ;)
peace,

We talked about this last year, so now we gotta come up with some sort of way of creating big corny mud pit for some wrestling with the ladies, I think the idea emerged last year while GheePup and I were only just slightly inebriated noticing all the other lovey maggetts abounding.
Anyone have a huge kiddie pool?

Man what a bummer for me seeing those dates. The last Saturday in April is the trout opener in Norcal and it is the one trip a year I do with my Pops and my sons. Last year the mammoth mini was a weekend later so I was able to fit it in. I had so much fun that I had fully planned on going again this year not even thinking about dates....

Hey Buckethead - just go! There'll be snow in late April. Even with this crappy season, I'm betting on the mountain still being very skiable on Memorial Day weekend. 4th of July... well, that weekend's a different story...

Just a note that all of you MVPs who have Bring A Friend cards -- hold on to them for the mini!!! We need all we can get! This year, they are good on the weekends, so our Maggot and Maggette friends will be able to ride at half price! 5 to a card, good for 5 days of riding...
Let's start organizing condos and LAX carpools... I'm going up on Thursday about 2PM, so who's flying in to LAX on Thursday morning? I plan on driving up with Tracy and Plakespear, I think. Might have room for one more. Viva, what are your plans?

I'll have a car and will be driving up Wednesday evening, returning Friday evening or night. My parents, who live in riverside, want me to be back by 7pm for a rehearsal dinner, but I personally can skip it. Room for two comfortably, and a couple of pairs of skis (I'm only bringing boots, will rent or demo skis when I get there.) Snowboards would not fit.

Everyone who needs to organize lodging, raise your hand. We're starting to look into lodging and need to figure out how many people are coming this year. I'm also going to start dealing with clubs, for parties. Last year, there were something like 65 people -
YAY!! Sprite might be coming!!! And, Shera!!! And Trayc!!!! and Chica!!! Big Maggette turnout, I think, again this year.... Girlski and Monique maybe, too?
Hmmmm, I was going to plan a Moab trip over this weekend. Now that it looks like there might actually be snow I think I'll just do a stopover in Mammoth on the way to Moab, even though, really, it's not on the way. Hard to pass up spring in Mammoth though...

Yes, I would love to come and meet the girls. I have girlfriends from my Loveland patrol time and a ton of wonderful friends at ski school, but not nearly enough maggettes. I've skied and hung out with Trayc and Divegirl. Really want to meet and party with the rest of you. :D

My usual MO is to drive up Thursday after work, and come home on Sunday. I leave out of Ventura, but can easily pick up anybody from Santa Barbara, Burbank or LAX airports. I have a choice of cars, depending on need, from a two seat Audi TT, Five seat Volvo, to a Suburban that holds more people then I care to think about.

The mini is the same weekend that one of the sororites from my school is having their ski weekend; at mammoth...
We're talking a sorostitues parent's mansion packed with 15-20 college girls and a ton of liquor. Since i took a few of them skiing earlier this year and havent made any drunken attempts to sleep with most of them recently they are for some reason o.k. with me tagging along.

With the current weather Fort FKNA should be in great shape. There will be many "Bring a friend" cards available. They are good for up to five people for up to five continuous days. I have several, as do many other maggots. If anybody needs them a head of time post up so we can send them out. Lets try to maximize there use, so plan ahead. Rumors are starting to circulate that this maybe the season ending ski party, so let's make the best of it.

So, in case folks are thinking about something on the deluxe accommodations front, my in-laws have a large 4br/3ba in Snowcrest. MBR has a king, two other BRs have queens, I think (might just be fulls, but I doubt it), and the fourth BR has two bunk beds (i.e., room for 4). WiFi, DVD (smallish screen), big dining table, 2 car garage, on the golf course, etc., yadda.
Booked direct, it should be like $285/night for that period. If you're sharing, it'd probably be fair to do it as $90 for the MBR and $65 for each of the other rooms.
PM me if you're interested, and I'll get you in touch with them.

I'll see if my GF is interested, sounds fun! She's just started skiing so we'd be on the greens for the weekend, but you still can't beat warm sunny weather just cruisin' around.

Looks like the GF isn't interested, saving a for a MTB trip later in the summer instead.
Say, does anyone know where in Mammoth I could park my SUV and sleep in the back without getting harrassed by the cops? It's a nice late-model Lexus with limo-tinted windows (nobody would even know I'm in there), so it wouldn't look like an abandoned vehicle or anything sketchy.
Just wondering, just ordered the '07/'08 ski and bike park pass so I hope to be up there a lot more often. The price of gas is a killer though so I'd like to sleep in the truck.

I'm out, just got the appendix out, so skiing is a no-no for the rest of the season.

What's up w/ the snow cover at Mammoth these days? I am sure it beats Killington...but still wondering what to expect.
Thx,
:)

Its going fast.Great conditions yesterday but with temps in the 50`s the melt is on.We usually get a good dump around the middle of April though:)If it stays dry there will still be skiing, just not as much terrain open.
Pic taken yesterday,Cornice in the backround. It was really fun!

Really? I thought I saw signs saying no overnight parking, maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else.

There is enough snow for the Mini. Memorial Day though is looking a lot tougher.

They aren`t bothering anyone right now. There has been a motorhome taking up 3 spaces with a popout for 3 days with no problems at the Mill parking lot.
Looking forward to it!!! Can't wait to meet the wild woman. ;)
Oh, relax Divegirl. It's just Honeypie.
Am I going to be the only one camping at fort FKNA??

There a tons of places off the scenic loop that you can get off the road a little ways, and not have the parking lot camping experience. Fort FKNA is just on of them. Are you going up for the mini? I am just down the road in Ventura, and plan to go.

I have access to more frinds & family vouchers than I thought. 2 vouchers = 1 free lift ticket and I will have about 10 or so. First come first served and all that.
PM me if interested

I'd really like to go, but the GF doesn't. I've made her suffer through too many rafting, hiking and kayak trips, so now I need to go on a few "nice hotel no sports" trips to even things out...sigh.
Where/what is Fort FKNA?

Last year at the July 4th mini it was a mile are so up the scenic loop. It was just a side road that ended in a small camping area. I am curious if it is going to have snow on it this year. If so, i may end up camping off one of the side roads out Benton crossing. Snow should be gone there, unless we get a big, cold dump.

I was all over the dirt roads off Benton Crossing a few weeks ago, not a spec of snow. Came back to town via Antelope Springs rd (think that was the name of it?)

yeah, if there's particulars on the camping compound, that would be great!
i'm headed down on Thursday morning. shooting for turns Thurs/Fri/Sat, then head back to Tahoe Sat evening (trying to break up the long drive to SF).
i'm just throwing skis, stove, tent, and whatnot into the back of the truck and going from there. although having a definite resting place in Mammoth would be kind of cool (last 4th of July I didn't know any Mags and ended up riding and camping solo).
