Anyone have one?

I want to see what Nordica recommends to slightly soften the flex of the Hot Rod boots. I've heard that the standard v cut in the heel of the lower is not recommended in these or the Dobies.

The are some dashed lines in the lower (some nearly verticals where the back of the ankle hits and some horizontal lines in the front) but I was wondering which to snip first. Also, I've heard of mini-v cuts on the sides of the lower.

There are also dashed lines in the upper cuff (top sides and front cuff area). My understanding is that cuff/buckle area trimming of the upper will increase the forward lean angle, which is not what I'm looking for.

Gracias,
Woolph

I have had 2 pairs of Dobies and both were softened as this kid isn't man enough for the WC150 flex.

The first I did with the V in the back. Worked fine. No issues and is how Footworks in Cham does it. They are probably the best boot fitters in Yurp.

The 2nd pair was done last year and was cut on some of the dashed lines you see. I can check this weekend to see which ones. I like the feel of this better, although this softened them more than the slight V I had in the 1st pair. Almost a tiny bit too soft. I would recommend this way, but might not cut on the dotted line, but rather a little less so as to not make quite such a dramatic impact, unless of course you are looking to make them a lot softer.

I’ve been looking to soften my Dobermans as well but not too much. Are you referring to the horizontal lines on the inner cuff? If so I’ll start by cutting a little higher up from the top line to avoid taking too much off at first.

my old set of WC150s were done with Vs on each side above the ankle bone. Worked well and kept the flex progressive. I have not touched my Hot Rod 130s though.

Here's the photo of three different modification options on the lower of the Hot Rod. The Mini-v is not actually dashed lines in the boot, I'm just adding it because some have suggested this. It's hard to tell from the photos perspective but the left side is the front of the boot.

Comish, let me know where footloose snipped your dobies.

We cut them with v's at the ankle and that also gels with the docs I've seen from Nordica. v's in the back like most boots scare me because of the close proximity to the rivets.
