The dates for the Utah Mini are FEB 1-4.

Reasons I chose this date:
1. Tourists are receeding.
b. The snow is usually good around this time (Ruh roh raggy! Snow is minimal.)
3. Plenty of time for me to plan.

Parties: Directions will be posted shortly.
Fri: Skiguide's - Bring unwanted gear for a basement blowout sale and elephant gifts are required by all (ski related).
Sat: Rotorhead's
Sun: Fartbag's Bring - superbowl munchies.

Parties will begin soon after the ski day finishes. Please shower before hand.


Preliminaries:
Thursday- Kind of a free day. Those coming in from far away I recommend Brighton half day (starts at 12:30).
Friday- Alta/Bird (meet at the tram deck at 9)
Saturday- Snowbasin Day (ticket window at 9)
Sunday- Solitude (ticket window at 9)


Again, pm me if you need anything, etc,etc.

I would recommend Friday being an Alta day, as that has been the most successful day for lots of people to show up in the past.

It's been know as the day we ski alta and apre ski @ Goldminers, then down to whatever party is going on.

If Sunday turns into a Basin day, then I'd say we move ahead with an overnight at MD9's -

otherwise, if it's a solisunday, we'll keep it down in the valley.

Sat. tour day? Not for me. I will only tour with a small group of people I know VERY WELL and TRUST WITH MY LIFE. That is just the way I am.

For a Mini, I think resorts would be the better choice and those who want to tour can when they want.

I will be there for some I am sure. I dig Basin for Sunday as well. Soli Saturday or Tour Day would be my suggestion. Alta is always on Friday, that is just part of Utah Mini History. GM beers after and then party time.

Checked out some rates for Hotels in the Sandy area...
Here are some rates if you were to book now, they will probably go up as the Mini nears, so get on it:

Hampton Inn(Sandy) / $107.34 / 2 Queens

Comfort Inn(Sandy) / $71.66 / 2 Queens

Residence Inn(Sandy) / $169.00 / 2 Queens

The Best Western in Sandy looks like it is booked already or not taking reservations at this point. Comfort Inn looks like the best bet for a cheap place to stay that is close to LCC. I can pick up some people on my way to Alta/Bird if need be. Or if you need a ride when you arrive in SLC from the Airport to Sandy I could probably swing that for a little gas money, if my schedule allows. I compared rates between Sandy and SLC, there really isn't much savings to be had staying in SLC rather then Sandy. Post up if you find any better rates.

I had a post up I deleted on the single plankers riding the Bird and then heading up to GMD for beers. I am more a one planker than two and I have done this on one of the UT Minis I organized. We had a good group, and some skiers that prefered Bird over Alta too (not naming names to protect the innocent).

So depending on the Alta vs Basin day on Friday, if Alta wins, then I will be at the Bird as well on my new 163 Solly Forecast. Xmas present I have been staring at in my den now for a few weeks. Can't have till Xmas though.

I like the sound of this. Fartbagcommando has committed his place for a Superbowl party on Sunday, so Solitude would probably best fit that (for those interested).

IMO, we shouldn't list touring as a scheduled event for any day. If I want to tour, I will, but it'll only be with those I choose to tour with.

We were actually thinking of an indoor/swap like event as well - because a lot of us have tons of extra gear to unload.... it's not really that practical for those of you coming from out of town, but for SLC'ers... it could be doable...
and the others could leave Utah with more gear than you brought..

It's not cheap ($57.50/person), but it is a good cause, and sounds like a lot of fun. If 10 people are interested, I can reserve a table. My thought is that on 2/2, we can ski the Canyons, have have apres drinks and hot tub/swim/shower at my place and then go to the dinner.

That is up to Sandy. When you came last time I was coordinating and did do a list on the first thread. But everyone has their own style. I had more time back then and could stay on it. These are not as easy as it seems. Lots of emails and PMs to work with and getting space for out of towners and carpools and all that jazz. Multiple pickup and drop offs to the airport.

I am trying to plan this shindig, but am feeling worked around. Yep.

First let me say I am on your side. I know your feeling. Hell, Frozen called me one time and said "HOW THE HELL DID YOU DO THREE SUMMITS?!?!?!!!" as he was pulling hair out for Jackson. I replied with a sand joke or something, but yes, it is overwelming trying to make everyone happy and get the schedule together and get parties planned. It is not easy.

That being said, some people like more organization, some like less. I went on the "more" route and that worked for most of us. People that want to do their own thing already have their minds made up or fly by the seat of the pants. I think those that want a list are either veterans of the Utah Mini or want to see who all is attending as they may have friends they want to hook up with that they may not have seen for several seasons.

I have to agee here. People are spending mass $$ to do this and those overseas mags really put up $$. Planning helps keep the money spent to a min.

And at the TGR party you did tell me you were having a party one of the nights of the Mini at your place. So I guess we were kinda scratching our heads at that one when you asked who is having the Sat. party.


As I am going to be away on business, I won't make it and I am bummed about that. But I am trying to help you as I can. Organizing this stuff is not so easy when you are knee deep into it.

Keep the chin up and it is now crunch time to set things final. Those that will show and want to ski with a gaggle of maggots will and those that want to earn turns will. Cater to the lift skiers that want the group dealio, as it is a Summit of sorts. :biggrin:

Don't sweat it, sticking with the hotdogs at Fartbags. My ski partner and I are heading into Salt lake on Sat for a week of fun and adventure...and hopefully more pow than there is now...we were thinking about hitting Solitude on Sunday as it would be less active but if all you maggots are there, I don't think there will be any fresh left over! oh snap! 300hp is coming!!! I was debating and then ticket prices went waaay up. I checked today and they went down $200.....yup. I can't wait to get utarded for the first time this year. There was talk of us hosting a gear swap during the Friday night party...is there still interest? We were thinking of limiting to 8-10 so things can be wrapped up before things really kick into high gear. I figured we'd set aside some space where you could just leave what you're selling with your name and a price on it. If you find something you like, find the maggot that owns it and pay them...no middle man to take a cut (but proceeds in beer are appreciated).

Gear swap is always fun. Maybe mags. could post what they are interested in getting rid of, so others can see what might be offered. For instance, I have a pair of 168 AX4s with P12s (my wife's) that are hardly used that I would like to swap for a pair of medium freerides, freeride pluses or Naxo21. Really, there is no need to bring them, if no one is interested.

IF this storm pans out I’ll be at Alta for first chair on Collins. I need a powder fix bad and it would be fun to ski with some of the people I biked with all summer. No need for nickel talk.
