OK - so this is a pretty lame first post, but the probability of an October TR here in Long Beach is pretty slim - so here goes.....

Before I plunk down $$$$ on yet another pair of goggles to fix the never ending fog that greets me on every storm day, I wanted to know if anyone has experience with the Prodigy Turbo.

I've searched the posts in this forum and couldn't find anything on the Turbo.

........and yes, I do switch out goggles during the day, but I'd need six pair to keep up with my melon's sweat output. The dome is covered with a G10 (XL) if that helps.

get a giro 9, they are GREAT for sweaty noggins, they are light and vent very well. I have the same problem w/other helmets. do you ski with your hood on btw?

I have the giro 10, but the 9 vents better eh? I rarely ski with my hood over my helmet.

I'm very happy w/ the Giro 9. The vent layout is a bit different than the 10.

But, you might want to look at the Fuse. The Fuse as 16 vents versus the 14 for 10. A bunch of the Fuse's vents are in front which should increase the cooling effect while moving.

Edited for snowing issues

One thing I do is to open vents but keep the ear covers on when it is snowing and windy. This keeps the snow out of the ears while you are on the lift but still lets the top of your head vent heat.

i REALLY like the 9 both for the lightweightness and strength, yes i said strength. had to buy a new one last year after going over a 70+ foot rock face and about another 200 or so feet down Lone Peak at Big Sky when i hit an unexposed rock. the helmet saved me from drinking out of a sippy cup for the rest of my life, went head over heels ragdolling, TOTAL yard sale!!! (glad i wasn't under the lifts, no hecklers) I have a pair of 198 dp's set at 12 for din and they both popped one was burried up to the top of the tip. patrol had to help find it (150+ feet up)...The helmet delamed a bit and had some nasty scars, BUT i bought another right after....what a testimony eh? Like i said, the 9 i like for the weight and how it breaths and its ruggedness....tried k2's, leedoms, and beore's, they ALL helped cause my goggles to fog up-when i went back to the 9 with the same goggles they didn't fog up.

so yeah, i somewhat swear by the 9...

drunken ramblings, don't know if this helped, hindered or just plain assed confused the living shit out of you...

in your neck of the woods, i would PROBABLY get something with kevlar and a bullet proof face mask, you can wear it on the ride home...WAIT, you can EVEN get a 1995 TNF Steep Tech on ebay, they have REAL kevlar in them...(see this link http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63411 for futher clarification)

Seeing as this turned into a "love my helmet" fest I've got to say my giro fuse and prodigy turbo fan combo is the cat's pajamas. I tour quite a bit so I can sometimes overpower the fan but it's not a common occurance. I'm a little obsessed so I actually took a little foam away right at the brim to allow better fan ventilation but it was probably fine without it. Added a custom visor for lens protection (and steez), got the tuneups II and I got to say I can't imagine being without it. GET THIS SETUP!!! To get a visor call giro and tell them you broke it off your g10 or whatever and they'll send it at no cost. Throw it on with some hardwear from Home Depot and you're set.

the visor actually decreases fogging/condensation (sp)? wow, thought it would increase the fogging because of a decrease in airflow. What gen turbo's do you have? how long did it take you to get used to the extra weight of the components and batteries?

Yeah the turbos are great - I never really noticed the weight at all. Batteries last a long time but mine ran out on me once at an inopportune time, now i just carry an fresh pack in my pocket.

Thanks for the info all. I'm going to try the turbos, add the visor to the 10 and see if that works. If not, maybe I'll invest in the G9.

I used to have an mx9 and I loved it. Only real draw backs it had was the vents couldn't be controlled by a switch and you had to open them manually. It held up for two years of bashing and crashing, and kept me away from a vegetative state. I returned the helmet on warranty a month ago because it had turned grey (how...I don't know). I replaced it with an G10 with the visor and I love it. It is a bit heavier than the 9, but it is better built with more cool features. The vents are controlled by a sliding thingy, the visor stays in place (my old one wouldn't secure itself well to the helmet), and the new tune ups II rock my socks off.

Bottom line, haven't skiied in the g10, but it sure does feel like an improvement from my mx9.

EDIT: Smith helmets look like money, but I've never tried them out.
